Does loyalty not count as being a family man? I thought loyalty, fidelity was paramount atleast in Indian context especially after polygamy was outlawed in India.
Merely providing meals and money for family and not being around for wife, kids or not being loyal was okay?
Weren't people of past more orthodox and conservative and judged character and looked down upon even ones who went to a kotha and called it 'shauq of bigdey shehzaade'?
I am aware though, that kings, nobles had multiple wives, slave girls, at times, even slave boys, saw mujra, slept around, had concubines, visited kothas, funded tawaifs.
Guess I am judging them from a more middle class understanding of notions of family, age appropriate behaviour or character then. Because I have never seen anyone as judgemental about character or sanskar or values as older generation people and I have seen the people from those times rave about how great those times were and what values they had then.
This is why I wondered, is this the values they had?
I mean look at age of SD Burman here and his toothless smile is a second hand embarrassment. Reminds me of Shaukeen movie.
I just wonder why older lot always pretend they had better culture, values, character then and look down upon new era or act all preachy and moralistic.
I do agree many men are protective and possessive of women in own family while they themselves do anything they like. I am aware these Bollywood guys and others knew what they themselves did to women and what industry was like, which is why they banned women from studios and sets or did not allow women of own family to work in films or interact with filmi colleagues or other men fron industry. The double standards on character and attitude towards women irk me. I mean one is being protective of woman in own family or how others view her but one is okay with doing anything with other women, who may also be someone else's daughter, wife, sister or granddaughter, niece, mom etc?
I am aware this hypocrisy exists till date. I just called it out for what it is. It is not a good thing. It is bad no matter how one spins it.
