REAL ABANDONMENT OR TRIAL SEPARATION???
Madhuji for your sincere defence of me
I shall break my trump promise for you
Murtasim is loading Jump 2.0. His objectives are teach Meerab a lesson, keep mother satisfied for now, and get sister married ASAP. He has probably figured out from Maryam what happened and he knows Meerab is not at fault. Does he not know what BeHaya did, he doesn't see the full picture yet but he suspects. Her comeuppance is coming. Murtasim fighting one battle at a time. First priority ensure wife safety.
Murtasim's second priority is getting Maryam married safely with no more additional dramas, and once that task is accomplished MB will calm down and he will bring Meerab home. He is such a drama queen it will only be a couple of days separation from his wife and he acts like he is dying. Look on the bright side Murtu YOU GET THE BED DUFFOD.
Murtasim is not abandoning Meerab, but protecting her from the onslaught of verbal abuse his mother will dish out if she stuck around. He is the ideal son and the ideal husband, he knows how to balance his relationships. Things are too tense right now If he tries to take a stand for Meerab MB won't stop her Meerab bashing backwaas. He not only physically protects her but also shields her honour, she is not a nobody she is Khan Murtasim Khan's begum and she deserves respect.
Maryam is being led by that snake like she is protecting Maryam from Meerab, Murtasim stands there heart broken he knows Meerab is next to fall and her cries for Maryam breaks his heart and all our hearts. MB unloads her rubbish on Murtasim that he should have killed MZ, he doesn't act like KMK he responds like Meerab's Murtasim, this is his wife's influence on him that no matter what violence isn't the answer.
Murtasim says 'haar to meri apni ghar mein hui', he is referring to the sister not the wife, but Meerab thinks he means her. He led his sister out from captivity in rage he blames her for this betrayal. When MB says get rid of Meerab we conveniently don't see Murtasim's reaction, camera focuses on everyone else Anwar, MB, Meerab but not him. Meerab looks hopefully at her father and her father's reaction is 'sorry this is not my problem'. We don't see Murtasim's reaction till a tear drops from his face, he has decided what must be done. He is only bound to the promises he made his wife. He is not angry just defiant.
Murtasim's act post Rohail incident was real fury but his reaction here is not like before. His first 'Chalo Meerab' was soft and gentle, it had a tone of let me take you away, not get out of our house. He couldn't meet her eyes when he says his second 'chalo Meerab' even more tenderly, but when she imploring calls out Murtasim his barely held together stoic facade crumbles. He looks at her pleading crying eyes, he can't bear to see her like this and says 'kuch mat kehna' what he meant was don't beg my love.
Murtasim grabs Meerab's wrists gently and leads her away, when he is truly angry he pulls her away like she is a rag doll, like he just did Maryam earlier. When he has led her by the wrist or hand it was to take her with him, it is never to lead her away from him. It is also Khan Murtasim Khan signature style, he dragged his sister home by holding her wrist, but Meerab is the prime beneficiary of his protective instincts.
They get to Karachi as fast as possible, Meerab almost hits her head on the dashboard from the sudden stop. With every second ticking by he probably wanted to change his mind and take her back home. He leads her out of the car says you are free now congratulations. That is an odd thing to say can he really believe that Meerab conspired to get Maryam eloped, anus or no anus to escape him. Murtasim knows she is cause oriented but to knowingly jeopardize an innocent girl's life that is not his Meerab, he would never think that low of her. She is his pride and joy, she is badtameez and many other things but a pure soul. The real reason why he won't believe such a farce is because he knows Meerab loves him, she just won't say it out loud and that is a different problem. Thus, such a thought wouldn't cross his mind that she is trying to end their marriage by doing such despicable things.
However when he says that line 'you are free now' it is to make her believe that he has lost faith in her. After the slap this is cruelest thing he has done. He is trying to frighten her with such thoughts because she did screw up big this time, hence his punishment is more severe. We know from Meerab's prayer letting him down trembles her soul so he finally hit bullseye with his punishment. But this is not just her punishment they will suffer together. He can't see her tears and runs out of there like his pants are on fire. He leaves her stranded on the road traumatized, in tearful agony, she has lost his trust, her love and she is homeless again.
You can ask why didn't he knock on the door and make sure she got safely inside, because he is torn between being placid and taking her back home. To watch her knock on the door, wait for the door to open, see her go inside and the door to shut on his face would have been too much for him to bear. It is final confirmation that she won't be there when he wakes up tomorrow morning and many more mornings, till he gets her back. He has a solution to his pain he will just smoke cigarettes in the garden and won't sleep till she comes back to him.
Gunn, I loved reading this.. Its painfully beautiful!!
Bold - the way you have explained why he didnt wait for the knock, I'm out of words.. This some great character analysis.
