Honestly Akshay was flopping by late 90s and till 2000.

He had become irrelevant.

He was nowhere in discussion.

Once he married Twinkle, daughter of Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia, he raised his profile and it got him lot more publicity and prestige in industry. A stronger foothold.

Raveena was also daughter of a big producer but her dad and mom were not as wildly famous names as Rajesh Khanna or Dimple Kapadia.

Shilpa, IMO, was also a timepass for him as she had no industry based legacy either.

Akshay did not marry Twinkle due to resemblance with Raveena. Nor did Twinkle ever look like Raveena when she was younger. He married her for legacy and also probably because it was not easy to use and throw daughter of Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia. The backlash would be greater. Dumping two industry kids back to back would have cost him more heavily.

It is also rumoured his wedding with Twinkle was rushed as she was pregnant. IDK if it is true. All I know is that his stocks went up in industry once he became son in law of Kaka and he bragged about it all the time how he had once gone to Rajesh's office looking for work but was rejected but today he was his son in law. Being son in law of Ravi Tandon does not get as much PR as son in law of first superstar of India.
