Note: Hayadidn’t find the contract. So, no contract confrontation infront of the family.
Murtasim was waiting outside the emergency room where his wife, his Meerab, was being treated. He felt betrayed. Betrayed by his family, who couldn’t even take care of his wife in his absence.
“Tum fiqr mat karo Murtasim, kuch nahi hoga tumhari biwi aur tumhari aulaad ko”, as these words left Ma begum’s mouth, he felt numb. He knows Meerab is not pregnant but what if she was? What would have happened to his child? His and Meerub’s child. Their baby. He wasn’t even sure if that would ever happen, if Meerub would ever trust him enough to give him a chance. Their marriage a chance. Only if things were normal between them.
The moment the saw the doctor, he couldn’t wait and asked, “Meerab kaisi hai? Who theek toh hai?”
“Aur uskabacha. Bacha theek toh hai na doctor?”, asked Ma begum. Worried about the heir of her family.
“Kaisa bacha? She isn’t pregnant. Aur agar hoti bhi toh girne ki wajeh se kafi complications ho sakhti thi. Mr. Khan, don’t worry your wife is fine. Chot and blood loss ki wajeh se thodi kamzori rahegi but who jald hi puri tarah se theek ho jayengi. Aap unhe thodi deir baad ghar le ja sakhte hai”, the moment he heard the doctor say this, he could finally breathe. His Meerub is fine. And he will ensure she remains safe till he is alive. Nothing and no one will ever be able to harm her ever again. No one. He will not let anyone hurt her ever again.
Few hours later:
Murtasim was still shaken, his anger had calmed a little but right now his only focus should be his wife. All he wanted was to ensure Meerub was comfortable and well taken care of. He was feeding her and looking at her like she was a baby. His baby.
“Ek baat puchun tumse Murtasim?”
“Ji.Bilkul. Tum theek ho na? Kahin dard toh nahi ho ra? Hum doctor ke chalet hai agar kuch bhi problem hai toh.”, said Murtasim, all ready to take her to the hospital.
“Nahi. I am fine. But aaj jo hua, uske baad tum Haya ke sath kya karoge Murtasim? Kya usse aise hi maaf kar doge jaise kuch hua hi nahi?”, as these words left Meerub’s mouth, he didn’t know what to say. He would never forgive Haya but she is his responsibility. What was he supposed to do? How was he supposed to punish Haya without compromising or letting go of his responsibility?
Murtasim’s silence was like a dagger to Meerub’s heart. She couldn’t believe him, couldn’t believe this family. Ma begum would always reprimand Meerub, even when her intentions were right but Haya? Why was Haya given a clean chit every time. What if something bad had happened. What if she died? What if she was actually pregnant? What if the baby di….No. Even the thought of losing her child or something happening to her child, scared Meerub. She would never let that happen. Murtasim would never let that happen. Murtasim would be a doting father, he would love his child and always protect him/her. She had no doubts about it.
“Agar mein waqai pregnant hoti toh kya karte tum Murtasim? Chor dete Haya ko aisi hi? Knowing that she tried to harm me and our child. Tab bhi chor dete? Meine tumse itni baar kahan hai, Haya ki nazar tumhare liye achi nahi hai, aur aaj usne jo kiya hai who kisi bhi hadh tak ja sakhti hai Murtasim. Kisi bhi had tak. Tumhare kareeb aane ke liye woh kuch bhi karegi. Usne yeh tak nahi socha ki apne pagalpan mein who ek nanhi si jaan ko chot pahuchana chahti thi. Shayad tum yeh bardasht kar sakhte ho but mein nahi”, spat Meerub. No way in hell will she let this pass.
Never. Murtasim would not let anyone harm his wife or his child. They were his. Responsibility or not. No one had the right to hurt what was his. He would not let Haya or anyone hurt his Meerub anymore.
“Tum chinta matt karo. Aaj ke baad Haya ya aur koi bhi tumhe hurt nahi karega Meerub. Aur yeh mera wada hai tumse. Mein kal hi Ma begum ko bolta hoon Haya ki shaadi karwane ke liye. I Promise I will never let her hurt you or our future children. Wada karta hoon tumse. I know it’s difficult for you to trust me, Meerub. But please for once trust me. Bahut mohabbat karta hoon tumse, aur tumhare taraf aane wale har takleef ko pehle mujhse ho kar guzarna hoga”, he held her hand and promised.
"I do. I trust you Murtasim", whispered Meerub and hugged him ever so lighly. She was tired of fighting with him. Fighting her feelings. All she wanted was to be loved and respected. She knew Murtasim loved her and she could also see him making efforts for her, for their relationship. Be it changing his thinking or his ways....all for her. She isn't blind. She may not admit it to him but she saw everything, she could feel
everything, even his love for her.
Murtasim felt multiple emotions at once - love, peace, hope, happiness. His heart was full. Full of so many known yet unknown emotions. Mohabbat aur sukoon, the best feeling in the whole wide world. Meerub in his arms and admitting her trust on him, meant the world to him. First time reality felt better than his dreams. Only if he could stop time and remain like this forever. His personal heaven.
“Waise Mrs.Murtasim Khan, in order for you to get pregnant you’ll have to burn that damncontract of yours”, teased Murtasim not wanting this moment to end but knowinghis wife needed rest.
“Murtasimmmmmmmmmmmm……..”
