Bollywood has made films in past which showed LGBTQIA people. Likes of Onir speak a lot about this.

So it is not like they cannot speak. I am NOT comparing them to ordinary people from these sections of society.

Rather common LGBTQIA people and activists, bloggers, lawyers are speaking MORE about it in real life and online compared to totally silent BW biggies.

I am proud of Yes we Exist India campaign for eg for documenting every bit of this case and filing cases against anyone promoting homophobia.

Yes I understood vvv clearly what you meant. And I am still saying it’s a massive deal. Onir is an openly gay man who has carved a niche for himself, he’s not comparable at all to people who are at the top of the ladder/ want to climb the ladder. Seen too many cases being a lawyer, of people in power/ seen lawyers being discriminated. 1 of my bffs is bisexual, currently in a relationship with a woman & has climbed the corporate law ladder well… She was asked to not reveal her sexual identity b/c “people don’t take it so well”. She’s currently In a relationship with a woman & they can’t live together b/c now they both fear & the gf is just starting out. Just look at Saurabh Kirpal & tell me how non-het/homosexual people AREN’T discriminated against. 1 Onir doesn’t cancel out a 1000 Kirpals.

One thing, lgbtq+ folks come out on their terms. In fact outing someone is deeply frowned upon.

Two, bollywood never cared about anything of substance. The level of political unrest and the full swing of oncoming elections wouldn't have anybody speak anything. Hrithik had wished Eid Mubarak, and this lady was questioning him why he hadn't wished for Akshya tritiya Or Parashuram Jayanti (most indians haven't ever celebrated any of these festivals tbh). You know the idiocy circling the country where an MP is banned from LS and has a defamation case for some remarks made years ago meanwhile literal murderers are acquitted. Who'd bother saying anything against any issue under such circumstances. Bollywood anyway is filled with cowards.

So well said.

It pains me to see pogrom convicts being acquitted and rapists also out on bail or getting parole or acquitted.

I totally understand festivals part.

Anyway I was not saying we should out anyone. But ones who are there, can probably use their resources to speak. I still hope they are supporting or donating for the cause behind the scenes and have the backs of their fellow LGTBQIA brethren in this case and movement for their rights.

I deeply admire courage of likes of Onir to speak out.

I feel bad how Kapil show caricatured K Jo and gay characters. It is okay to mock them but not okay to speak for their rights and legitimacy of their existence? The double standards of entertainment industry are hideous.

I agree on cowards part. They are cowards. Especially ones in South Asia. Hollywood ones still speak sometimes even if they get backlash.

Bollywood is already blamed for being anti national, Hindu phobia, pro Pakistani , ruining Indian culture, adopting western culture, dressing n mindset etc.

So may be that's why no one wants to get trapped in more controversy. Also many r satisfied with living relationship n themselves don't want marriage as a binding.

Ppl fight for marriage when u want to spend ur whole life with one person.. Otherwise marriage makes things complicated like child rights, property rights, domestic violence etc..

Many not be even in favor of marriage.
