I think Dharma wants to make this a franchise too like Aashiqui 1,2,3 etc. Except I’m not sure the first one made enough of an impact financially or musically to grab everyone’s attention for second part 🤷🏽‍♀️

Just because she is signed under Karan doesn't mean she doesn't have to audition. She auditioned for a non-Dharma project (Animal) which Karan allows.

Only YRF has that clause where they can't do other people's films but Dharma does not.

But for first pick she usually gets Dharma projects ie Qala and now this one, because she is primarily DCA.

Also why is auditioning bad? Auditioning is the ONE thing Tripti has going for her, otherwise Sara Ali Khan would have bagged the role. There is nothing wrong or degrading about auditioning, and any filmmaker worth his salt will make their actors/actresses audition. Even nepo kids have to audition now to some extent for certain roles, after much backlash from the public.

Karan want Dhadak (= Heartbeat) to be like the Aashiqui (= Romance) "franchise" (til now only 2 movies) with separate stories.

My first thought was "ah, Tripti will take Alia's position now"...and then, I thought "may be it's his way to get a distance from the KJo = nepotism tag". He NEEDS a change from launching star-kids, I think.
