that is a good serious question but I am not sure if we have the answer. I think the problem lies in having infinte serials.
like bechain mentioned couple of pages back, when we had finite serials, the quality was good. I was not familiar with the serials she mentioned because I only started watching hindi serials during the EK era. however, in tamil, during DD days, we had author written novels translated to serials and so the quality was very high.
however, even now, we do have some good serials now and then. bepannah was high emotional voltage drama but I loved most of it for the actors as well as the writing. it asked the question -- why love isn't enough to sustain a marriage? -- so apt for the modern age and very relevant to think about. so it is not like there weren't good and different serials now and then but they disappear quickly.
when it comes to movies though, I can tell you that I am not generally a fan of independent cinema or award winners. in fact, if I read something is oscar nominated or got awards, I know it will be dreadfullly serious and depressing and slow. so I avoid like the plauge. my personal feel is that commercial cinema like avengers and pacific rim are a masterpiece because it is not easy to create 2+ hours of entertainment. š
that said, I don't think commercial cinema means it has to be mindless. within south indian cinema, I like the family movies segment where the stories are clean, sweet, funny and still very different. you get great stories that are out of the box but meant to be watched as a family and are not depressing.
I think good storytelling has a lasting quality. I still enjoy watching movies from the 80s and 90s which were extremely well-written and talk about social themes. no matter how many times you have watched them, they are entertaining.
like you said, there has to be a middle ground -- yes, we want to see new stories but the key is it has to be entertaining. many are watching after a long day and that half hour is a way to unwind.
M, I just watched Father of the Bride and loved every minute of it! You will enjoy it. One of the main track is the marital challenges faced by the parents of the bride! The father is an architectš¤£he dresses very well. The mother also studied architecture but was involved in interior design. I think that you would love their clothes! Overall, it was a wholesome family movie!
I also find it very hard to watch movies which win at the Oscars. I recently tried to watch Everything Everywhere All At Once but I am kinda stuck. I will try to find some courage to continue it later!
I agree that marvel movies are masterpieces!š¤£I am into Marvel, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Fast & Furious! My favourite movie is Avatar 2. I was blown away when I saw it. Apparently the critics said that it had no story!š¤£I don't care as it was the best cinematic experience of my life, and I was transported to that universe.

I wish you had seen some of those shows i mentioned. I am sure you would have loved them. That was the golden phase of itv, atleast in hindi region. I am sure many south and other regional shows must have also been made during that time.
Astitva was about age difference love story,
kora kagaz was about a woman tricked by in laws into a loveless marriage,
saans was about EMA and what impact it has on family,
chhoti si asha was about struggles of lower middle class woman after her husband dies
Hasratein was about infidelity in marriage and career oriented woman vs home maker debate.
...all these were very realistically portrayed by actors and these women (characters) were the epitome of grace, braveness, courage and progressive mindset.
And as @Neutral and shalzie pointed out that viewers acceptance and moral- cultural policing, and viewers taste in general is a reason for not making finite progressive shows, I dont agree with it.
all the above mentioned shows were made almost decade or two ago. They were very sensitive and rebellious for that time period but still all were trp toppers. So if viewers can accept these shows at that time then now I dont think they will have any problem.
It seems like we have progressed so much as viewers but itv creatives has gone back to dungeons of regressiveness with passage of time.
I read Ratna pathak shah's interview once and she answered without mincing her words that few big ph are responsible for the sorry state of itv. She was clearly hinting towards the biggies like EK, rajan shahi etc.
She said today itv has become a very organised money making industry. There is no place for creativity and there is no need for story. They just come together, rope in some actors and then continue shooting churning out episode after episode without any logic. Their only aim is to make as many episodes as possible.
And recently Smriti irani's interview has been trending everywhere bringing out the dark side of tv industry. She said actors, technician are made to work day and night in inhuman conditions. They are not provided with good food, no rest hours. She was called to shoot the very next day when she had a miscarriage, this happened with her when she was EK's favourite. Just imagine, the so called czarina of itv treats her fav like this then what she might be doing with other people. Smriti is big politician now so may be she can say it openly but actors who earning their bread and butter from these shows can't dare to say anything.
Still many actors have come out in open accusing these ph of bullying, itv having no screenplay, no script sometimes.
These producer mafias claims they have generated lots of employment but in reality they have ruined everything about itv.
Bold: I would actually love to be wrongšthe problem is that I do not see a willingness from the audience to simply reject the content which is being shown. I saw my parents watch Kundli Bhagya and Kumkum Bhagya over the years. Both of them are educated. The shows have become part of their routine. There was a time when I would get so upset on seeing Riya on screen. I change the channel or switch off the TV but most people don't. You are right that we don't have to generalise. But unfortunately my opinion is based on my own experience. Excluding KA currently, I havenāt enjoyed a smooth ITV experience lately.
Exactly my point yaar.
See this video, i follow this youtube channel and he has some really true and genuine opinions about chosen topics.
My 100 essays wont cover everything what he has covered in this short video.

Completely agree with u people don't reject those TRP trucks, sometimes i feel maybe some scenes are entertaining there and then it becomes a habit sort of caffeine not easy to give up
Btw
Who is Riya ???
Some character ???

I can understand what you are trying to say.
The problem is this shit show culture has so deeply engraved in the mind of people that probably they don't even realise they are addicted, craving for them. This addiction stops them from watching sensible shows.
Just see the video I have just posted. It explains it all very well.
Not as of now.But who knowsš,maybe in the future.

Ek gave too much attention to stabilize plus over hype her own ott platform altbalaji for more than 5 years, but last month read both mom-daughter had an exit, now its renamed as altt with a different management team.
Mostly need to be glad that last many years Ek was NOT closely involved creatively with her OWN daily serials on TV, but now if she has more time to invest, that's also worrisome. She has very few countable old team of brain dead creatives & writers actually left to work with BT, who are just shallow running her serials like some B or C grade films.
I was sharing it another post too. In last 4-5 yrs all new Ek/BT daily serials of same rehash/remake/regressive/reboot/recycle plots didn't actually give big profits, or high TRPs, or block buster hype, or sensational popularity š even with reduced budgets, low cost actors unlike those old times.Ek has budgets, focus, investments, creative interests mainly for Naagin kind weekend fantasy series or once in a while when ever hindi channel heads rebuke her BT team, she probably chips in to bring half baked crappy & abrupt leaps.
After 2016 rarely any fresh or attractive concept daily shows got launched by Ek on TV, other than spinoffs or seasonal's or reboots. YHC & KDB got ready made original shows audience & took formula from YHM & KKB,š other than these none of BT soaps really worked well to connect with TV audiences for a long time. But yeah EK's name fixation with 'P' letter for her TV serial females continues.
For that matter EK & BT were known for terrific casting of main leads/key roles in their serials, even if their story plots have cliches with over used & recycled copy-paste patterns, but recent years BT daily soaps castings & character sketches of main leads & parallel leads have also majorly gone for toss.š E.g. check recent post leap castings in BALH2, KDB, KKB.
PS.
Read a rumor, that Ek is planning another spinoff of KKB called Bandhan Bhagya, fresh spinoff of Bhagyalakshmi (which itself is low quality khichdi of KKB & many old BT serial plots) is in Q, to be called as Bhagya Rekha. š
When Vian went to her to apologise she simply could have refused but she definitely blamed him calling it paap and bhagwaan ko kya mooh dikhaoge
And itni hindi at least people know to get that its called blaming
Also she gave herself clean chit saying i did it for my son ,was he aware of the situation NO ,how is he the PAAPI
@bold
No one is judge to get that percentage.i blame both of them equally for ONS
no opinion on the last part ????
Anyways i like it that the DT is moving fast now !!
She said exactly same, if you asked third person then both of them committed PAAP. Like you are blaming both of them equally.
Was he aware of the situation :- who is responsible for not knowing the situation? What if Katha is not mother, what if she is asking 1cr to save her boyfriend, is it right to ask for sex? It is just an excuse. If he wanted to know, he could have atleast ask once.
