Chapter 1

The back drop for this story is a famous engineering college in Chennai. Meenakshi Alias meenu from madurai has passed +2 examination as state first & got seat in reputed college in Chennai. Her friends' are very happy for her. Nobody is accompanying her to Chennai. Without friends meenu reaches Chennai afraid to be alone in a strange city.She has got placed in a hostel in nungabakkam & shud go to her college in guindy. Her room mate in hostel is Sasi who incidentally studies in same class as meenu. She is happy that somebody will accompany her to college on first day. But the sad news is that meenu had to leave alone as sasi being lazy was late & meenu had an important meeting with principal. So after gathering courage meenu leaves alone to railway station.

A train is leaving platform & meenu runs to catch it. One person gives her hand to get inside. That is our hero saravan with a clean shaven look(he is a city modern guy ok).Meenu thanks him & goes to sit as she is gasping for air. Then she thinks isn't the guy very nice. She thinks abt how her friends in madurai have talked abt boys in Chennai.Seeing her thought process reining away meenu puts it back on track as her ambition in life is to do her higher studies in foreign.

Guindy station have come & meenu gets down hurriedly not noticing that saravan also getting down in the same station. Meenu rushes to the principal office. Principal congrats her for getting state first & says that he is very happy to have such a student in his college. He wishes her good luck & asks her to go to her class which is Ist yr ECE.

The campus is big & meenu is searching for her class & reaches the corridor where her class is situated. From the other side of the corridor comes a guy. He looks familiar to meenu &she is focusing on him. When he comes near some 100 meters distance meenu recognizes him as the guy who helped her in train. Her heart starts to beat hard ……

Meenu is stumped. Saravan comes near her showing what happened hand sign. Meenu is speechless. Saravan thinks what happened to this girl? Meanwhile Sasi comes outside running & literally drags meenu inside the class followed by saravan. After making meenu sit sasi has to shake her out of her trance like state. Realizing what she has done meenu feels ashamed & turns around to see the classroom & finds saravan sitting behind her. Her cheeks turns crimson & she lays her head on the bench exhausted. It's as though some body has drained the entire energy from her body. She gets angry with herself for feeling like this as she does not want to move away from her ambitious path & love is not in her books at all.

Meanwhile saravan is thinking this girl has the most beautiful pair of eyes in the world & when I touched her hand in train it was like a electric current passing through my body may be she produces the current in that powerful eyes. His thut process begins to wander & we all really know well what guys will think next & lets not get in to details. At last he decides to know more abt her.

So when meenu has decided to stay away from him, he has decided to know more about her. After initial formal intro btw the two meenu starts playing hide & seek with him avoiding him for next few weeks. But she did not stop thinking abt him & his was the same case. Luck started to intervene in the form of orientation program. It's the function organized by seniors to give a platform for the juniors to show case their talent. Meenu did not take part in it but what she did not know was a surprise awaiting her on that day.

Auditorium is full on the D-day. Meenu goes & sits in the front row. Programs start & various performances take place. Last item is light music & its our saravan singing on stage. He sings the song "kadhalin deepam ondru etrinalae en neengil…..(Thanbiku entha oru). The way he sings the song is as though he has mixed his soul with it. He is only seeing meenu with his sharp eyes during singing. The auditorium is silent as though bound by magic. Meenu feels that he is really seeing thru her. Her heart starts melting.Auditorium fills with claps & love started to make its way in to meenu. She sits there transfixed knowing no way to stop it.

Meenu's mind takes over her heart & she decides to talk to saravan then & there as she cannot take it anymore. Having a new found decision meenu gets up determined & scans the crowd for saravan. He is going towards the railway station meenu speeds up to catch hold of him. Saravan is really in 9th world .He has sang so many times in the past but nothing had the magic like this day. He is in serious thut why he cud not take his eyes off meenu. He never felt like this before.

Meenu comes fast & joins saravan in walk.

S-What a surprise!!! u used to run away from me .Rain is going to come . Aiyo I did not even bring an umbrella
M- Stop kidding will u ? Why were u seeing me like that when u were singing? Don't let any ideas creep in ur mind. I have come to make my self clear.
S- Ok I am all ears.
M- I come from a middle class family. I lost my parents when I was young. I am under the care of my aunt now.
S- i feel Sorry for ur parents
M- my aunt has sacrificed her life for my sake. Everybody scolded my aunt saying she is going to regret her decision to raise me alone since I am a girl.
Meenu gets emotional & saravan is surprised.
M- my aunt has instilled in me from very young age that I shud break all barriers & only education can do that. I some what fulfilled her wish by joining this reputed college & now she pins her hopes on the fact that I will go to foreign to do my higher studies.
S- ok that's gr8. What I don't understand is how I will fit in here? What did I do?
Meenu gains composure & after leaving a long breath continue
M- first time in my life u have started to disturb me.
Saravan smiles
S- in what way?
M- I don't know
S- Ok let us be spl friends
Meenu rolls her big eyes.
S-err ok lets be friends
Meenu thinks this is better than being lovers. What she does not know is this is the first step in the direction of love.
So saravan & meenu shake hands & reach station.Train comes & they board. They r standing near the door opposite to each other. Air plays havoc in meenu's hair. Meenu thinking will this last as friendship Or did I take a wrong step?? Saravan gives a mischievous smile as though he has read her mind.

The friendship of meenu –saravan has grown day by day. Neither of them tried to take it to next level. She due to her ambition & he not wanting to disturb her more since he really wanted her to achieve. But one thing happened .This pair became famous in campus. Days flew & exams have come. After exams meenu had to leave for madurai as she longed to see her aunt. Saravan tortured her asking whether she has to really go.Meenu though did not wanted to go she really wanted to check whether she can live without seeing him.

So she leaves for madurai. But after reaching there her days stretched longer & nights more longer. She cursed herself for her state. Then one day in courier a beautiful package arrived from saravan . Her aunt did not seem to notice & meenu ran upstairs to see what it was? Before she opened the package fully it started to ring. It was the cell phone saravan has sent so that he can talk to her. Its was a beautiful pink phone. When she heard his voice her heart skipped couple of beats. But she was relieved that her misery wud be reduced though not fully gone.

Though saravan missed meenu so much, his main reason for sending her cell phone for his recurring dream. He has been seeing this dream from childhood since his mom died.
In his dreams comes a young woman who promises to never leave his side. But he was unable to see the face. But yesderday the fog lifted & he saw that it was meenu . He decided then & there that meenu was the only girl in his life. But he did not mention any of this to meenu.

On her departure day meenu's aunt found out abt this phone & the guy she is talking to.Meenu gets her earful. Normal reaction of any parent. She gets promise from meenu that she will achieve her goal. Meenu switches off the phone & packs her bag & leaves.

Saravan is trying for her phone as he wanted to pick her up. But no use. Meenu gets down from train & catches an auto. She is not really in her senses & its night time. She did not see the auto man stop but suddenly wakes up & sees a gang of guys watching her. She asks the auto man to start the vehicle soon but he is unable to do so. With no other go meenu starts to run cursing herself for not calling saravan. She switches on the phone but no use the rowdies have come very near. Suddenly a bike comes & screeches to halt near her. Its none other than her saravan .She runs straight in his arms thanking God. Saravan stands there stunned having hot meenu in arms not knowing what to do though he waited for this whole life. Then he hugs her back.

(I felt my mom in ur hug,I died & reborn in that minute.But I have no strength to do it again & again)

The rowdies see that her protector has come & they back off(let saravan be simple college guy in this story.I know u guys must have expected a fight) Meenu feels warmthness in her body & realizes what she is doing . She releases herself from the hug though reluctant to so. Silence prevails. Saravan drops her in hostel & leaves without uttering a word. Meenu goes to her room thinking how to tell him that she has promised her aunt that she will never waver from her goal.

College reopens. Saravan is waiting tensed in college, Since meenu did not take any of his calls. He curses himself for hugging her last night. Meenu comes grim to college. Saravan readies himself for scolding. Meenu starts saying u have no responsibility, u r a useless fellow etc. Saravan cud not understand . Then meenu throws on him the exam results. Meenu had come first as usual but Saravan has passed with border marks.Saravan starts laughing as he had expected something else. This increases her anger & she says she has hoped that he will come with her to another country to study masters & how she has dreamed that they will be together there also like they r here. But no use, saravan will never make it with this kind of marks. Saravan calms her down & promises to be more studious in future. Meenu leaves in a huff.

Spl. Treat has been arranged by classmates for meenu coming first in mayajaal. Meenu & sasi & other girls r standing there waiting for the boys gang to arrive. A trendy sports car comes & Saravan & other guys jump out from it. Meenu feels that something is not right & asks sasi. Sasi informs Meenu that saravan is very rich & enquires her whether she did not know it being saravan's best friend. Meenu is tensed. Then only she realizes she has never asked abt the family back ground of saravan. She decides to do so after movie gets over. Other guys & girls have left & saravan is going to drop meenu in car. Both r silent sometime then meenu starts to ask abt his family back ground.

Saravan says that he is son of a very successful businessman & that he has no mother.He offers to take her to his home. She asks him why he did not tell her this before. Saravan says he likes to be simple. They reach his house which is a grant bungalow in adayar. He takes her to pooja room & shows the photograph of his mom. Then he informs her abt the dreams he get & how he saw meenu one day & from that day he is living with her daily both in person & in dreams, since he never wants to lose her from his sight. Meenu is left speechless as saravan has just now confessed his love for her indirectly.

Meenu is going crazy as every cells in her heart ask her to promise saravan that she will be with him But her mind will not let her do that since she is to oblige her aunt whose life is only meenu. Without knowing a way to answer meenu runs away from there. Saravan decides that he will make her accept that she loves him no matter what. So now started new kind of hide & seek btw two hearts.

Saravan comes next day to college with new determination. But meenu never lets him talk & tells him how her aunt found out abt them & that she has promised that she will never waver from her goal. Saravan tells her true love never makes u fail but only adds strength to u. Still meenu is silent. Saravan says that he will wait for her till she accomplishes her goal or if she wants till the end of his life & will help her in what ever way she wants. Meenu is still silent but a drop of tear falls from her eyes & saravan knew for sure that she too loves him since he saw love in her eyes.

Next day to college he comes wearing a long chain. Meenu wants to know what it is but saravan refuses to show her & tells her she will know abt it when time comes.With new found determination both of them study really well & write their second year exams.

Once again torture of leave & separation. But meenu comes 1 week before the leave gets over & comes to stay in saravan's house as per his request ,since saravan's dad is on tour. Saravan has promised her that he will never cross his limits. So comes the happiest week of their life. Meenu even cooks for him which makes him very happy. saravan stays with her every minute. They don't even go out. On the last day of the week they talk long in to night & meenu dozes off in saravan's lap unknowingly & saravan even breaths slowly not wanting to disturb her. Saravan's dad comes suddenly & sees them. Saravan is shocked.

(U & me together, Life is sweet ,can't life stop at this minute?)

But even after seeing his dad he did not get up quickly not wanting to disturb meenu. His dad leaves with a huff. He lifts her softly & places her in bed & dozes off there itself. Meenu gets up in the morning & sees saravan sleeping in sitting position in sofa near by. She is very touched. She goes inside to get ready for college. Saravan also gets ready & they both come down together & saravan's dad is waiting there for them but with a smile. The servants had told him how they lived together for a week decently & how much saravan loves meenu. Dad talks to meenu politely but meenu is so tensed that she leaves for college alone making excuses.

After meenu leaves saravan explains to his dad his feelings for meenu& how she has helped him improve in studies & her goal etc. He finally says that she is yet to accept his love. Saravan's dad is highly impressed. He is sure meenu is not after money since she did not accept his love till now. Dad gives green signal to saravan & saravan runs to college to share this good news with meenu.

Meenu waits there in college with another good news. Saravan's grade has improved so much & she is very happy for him. Saravan shares his good news with her & meenu is happy that they have crossed one hurdle in this sollatha kadhal game .

One more year starts in college with new found energy.

With usual studies meenu & saravan enjoy life to fullest. Exam comes & goes. But this holiday there will be no separation since they have arranged for a study tour in college. They get ready with happiness but their happiness is short lived since meenu's aunt has come to see her & she insists on seeing saravan. Meenu is tensed because her aunt never reveals the reason.
