Is romance, an out and out romance like this one taken in a bad light among their general audience? Do they really look down upon romance? Or is it the extravagant way this is made, very much in contrast to their subtle dramas, that makes people call it 'trash'?

TB started off on the wrong foot when so called liberal reviewers like Amna go on a public platform call TB is a mills and boon story and even associated it with fifty shades of grey, immediately you have sunk the credibility of the project. Mills and Boon means romance driven by sexual conquest, power play, lots of other bad things and not just in Pakistan it is mocked as trash escapist fiction everywhere. Now the great Humsafar the great does it have mills and boon themes in it yes, but is it a mills and boon story no it is not, because Ashar romance with Khairad is deemed innocent pure, but Murtasim attraction of Meerab is deemed sexual lustful. The latter offends the conservative senses hence the project is trash. And this distinction was made before the contract episode, so they never gave this story a chance to rise above their own prejudices. An alpha on alpha romance will have sexual tension in it because it is their personalities, but that does not make them a Mills and Boon couple. I don't get what kool aid Amna is drinking.

East or west A listers don't do Mill and Boon type works because when you become that popular you must become socially responsible, Mill and Boon promotes unhealthy relationships on the pretext of selling sex and romance. Robert Pattison and Jamie Dornan will forever be embarrassed for working on Twilight and Fifty shades of grey they will take that shame to the grave, but do they regret it No because it gave them popularity, access to more work and more success. It definitely helped Robert Pattison career not sure about Jamie Dornan. But would an A lister in Hollywood done a project like this NOOOOOOOOOOOO, because the stories, plots, characters are beneath them NOT THE ROMANCE. Titanic would not work if not for the romance. Leo wouldn't be where he is today if not for Titanic.

There is a difference between Mill and Boon stories and Romantic Genre in General. SRK has built his career on Romance. In Korea TV is king and all their A list stars must be great romantic heroes and heroines, because romance is the engine to their industry. Take the best actors and actresses in Korea, list their best projects it will be their romantic shows, Song was great in Vincenzo, but he will be forever known as the Descendants of the Sun hero.

The problem is not romance, but what kind of romance. Bridgerton books and show have lots of sex and sexual tension in it but it is not Bills and Moon. Hence people can enjoy it without calling it trash, actors don't have to promote it like they are advocating sin, criticisms of it are more plot based, character based, it is never there is too much sex or sexual tension. Mills and Boon sells sex not romance. Is TB selling us sex or romance. TB is just slotted in the wrong bracket, because it is the first in Pakistan they don't know what to do about it. In my opinion is TB Mills and Boon NO, but it does borrow on certain themes. A good romantic story should have some sexual tension in it, but it is not defined by it.

Ultimately if TB fails because they couldn't end it well, it was because the plot failed to deliver. Not because romantic genre is the problem, or not because Yumna or Wahaj failed as actors. Any good actor should do any and every genre, critics who begrudge them this choice don't understand the nature of their job. Conservative countries like Pakistan dump on romance because they fail to appreciate what it means to be in love, or what love even means in their society, what is its place in their lives, why are they so repulsed by it and if they let it breathe will it really destroy their culture and god.
