Alladin and is genie wow city kids at Mela
It's been a while that they've been favourites of children countrywide but Alladin and his genie are still a little flustered by all the adulation they get wherever they go.
Mandar Joshi, who plays Alladin and his genie Arjun Dutt were in the City of Nawabs to enthrall their fans at the Zee mela on its first day on Saturday at Motimahal lawns. Speaking about his role Mandar says he gets to taste every spice of life as Alladin-- Initially he was like any ordinary quiet boy of 18, then gradually he opens up to his destiny and that's where I get to play all shades an actor would die for-- there is action, adventure, heroism, romance, tragedy-- I quite enjoy playing the central lead in Alladin," says the actor.
How does he tackle the fan following?
"It takes me aback. In Ahmedabad we were on a cable channel doing a promotion when a girl called in. She was so excited that she was actually talking to me. Later in the day we had a mall visit and guess what-- she turned up with her entire family just to say hello. Its an incredible feeling to get that kind of sincere love because children are so genuine."
The worst part of being the genie for Arjun Dutt is to keep off smoking an d cold drinks. "I realise I have to be a role model for so many children. Its consciously cut down my smoking and I don't have fizzy drinks anymore too."
So what would he wish for if he actually gets a magic lamp?
"I'd ask for the happiness and health of every child and that they study well. And for all parents to be sensitive to their children's special qualities and nurture them too," he adds.
