Which of these 2 things matter more to you when you watch a movie?

1Do you watch movies to:
1. Escape reality
2. Connect with the storytelling
For me, it's the latter. I need to connect with the characters, story, and milieu. For me, the escapist fare is fun at times, but the stronger need is to connect.
For example -- I love Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and DDLJ for the escapism, but what makes a movie superior to me is a movie like English Vinglish, where I could connect with the characters and they took me to a place of reflection and introspection.
So English Vinglish>>>Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (at least for me)
I need to be invested in the world of the character and the world of the movie. English Vinglish did that for me and offered a new perspective on embracing your limitations.

Depends on the movie. If m gonna watch soty to connect with reality, imma curse my fate for not being born to the Nandas and if i am watching English Vinglish to escape the reality, even my fake world has sexism in it (and we don't want that)
I watch movies to escape
Listen to music to connect
I watch movies (of any genre) to escape into fantasy/fiction so that I can survive the reality. :)
I think, from my first movie-watch in the theatre it always was about the magic to immerse into the story told, into other people's feelings, living, drama's etc. (It's the same when I read a book).
It's always to connect with the characters and the story told...and the surrounding (the sets, landscapes, regions).
I don't have the wish to "escape" my reality (or any reality, for that matter) ... movies are - to me - a reflection of other people's life or of other people's imagination. Movies are magic!!!
Whenever I was in a bad mood, or something disturbing me, I watch movies (only sad) to escape reality.
whenever I’m in quiet and calm mood, I watch movies with good story and acting.
Whenever I’m happy and cheerful, I watch masala entertainers.
