@ green: True. Nehmat should have first gotten Advait arrested. But then, knowing Nehmat's character, I am not surprised because she would use some crazy logic, like not wanting to bring Mallika into the mess.

Advait never had a deep emotional bond with any girl. He showed some interest in Naaz (I'm not sure if this was out of curiosity or something else). However, the way he interacted with Naaz changed the instant he realized Naaz was Nikhil's girlfriend. Therefore, I don't think that Advait was busy with other things and had no time to keep an eye on Naaz. Also, considering that Advait found time to date Mallika even throughout the election season, I believe it was more like Advait started seeing Naaz as his sister-in-law.
