3 is correct for story. External conflict is the vehicle for the plot while internal conflict gives character growth.
Since I stopped watching this show long ago I have no idea of it's progress in story but as Indian shows are notorious for dragging on a storyline with no proper plot points or growth, I'm sure it has barely moved on.
However, what they do is centre story around story premise and question and batter audiences with it. So here story premise is of a battered woman gaining her independence and leading a fulfilled life despite being middle aged with grown children. The question is, can she be independent with all the ties that keep pulling her back?.... this is what audience will be seeing...the tugs, the mistakes, the step forward and two step backward....
