They never fit characters like a glove and look fake especially in non urban or non glam roles.

They look worse with fake brown face to look poor.

Hardly look villager or middle class either.

And they are so over exposed in media, social media that there is no excitement to see them in films.

Ash is Nandini in HDDCS and Paro in Devdas. Can't say same for today's actresses and mannequins.

I hate to say it but literally in the last 15 years all actresses look so similar and are doing the same things. Of course the actors too, but to be fair, there are not many young actors compared to the actresses. Old actors don't know when to retire or play age appropriate roles either! I also feel item numbers are the same thing, same dancing style, same terrible music, and retold story lines. It all feels so generic, copied and uninspired.

I think actors and actresses of these days are not that talented and famous as the old ones. There's too many, that could be one of the reasons. Most of them are nepo kids and it has become easier to enter the industry which probably explains the lack of talent unlike 90s.

There’s dearth of variety. As SH stated, most of them look and act the same.

Or stupid action films. Idk how people can keep watching the same crap again and again when it comes to these genres. Of course a mixture is needed but I agree, a lot of them have been really bad for a long time. However, content driven films are not even doing well either. It's like a hit or miss.

The music is lagging behind as well, I stopped listening to new songs some 4-5 years ago. Most of them are crappy.

Yes. Same kind of bikinis, shirtless men, 8 pack abs or same hair style. Same gyrating, same choreography.

I was watching Mera piya ghar aaya song of Madhuri and wondering how expressive her face is and how not a single actress of today has that range of expressions with every single beat. That song was a cheap remake of a ghazal. It became a hit but it was not exactly seen as work of art then. Now quality has declined so much that even the above average songs of past seem way better.

The PANDEMIC (COVID) has changed the dynamics of ...

BW's outlook regarding movie goers in the actual theaters.

Socio-political factors too 👍🏼

And I feel these nepos have a much easier time to stay and keep getting films. Also, for me social media has really turned me off to a lot of celebrities. I don't even follow anyone due to the fact that there isn't any mystery or mystic to them anymore. I don't care to know all what they do, and sometimes seeing them comes off fake for likes and more followers. It's a weird world we live in now.

Social media has done more damage than benefit to everyone. Most mental illnesses like depression are caused primarily by social media. SM is a murderer

I only feel bad for Alia's back for having to carry this entire industry 😆

That is true. The comparison phase as I call it is really unhealthy. I know not everyone gets caught up in it, but if you are an avid social media user, following people who are "better off" than you (or so they appear to be) it can start to mess with you. I have stopped using instagram for that fact. It was really making me feel terrible. At times, I miss it, but I don't miss it for my mental health.

Funny you say that, but I feel even the worst songs today, in 20 years time people will be praising it. I hope not though! I did see a reddit post judging a few actresses on their item numbers and comparing and personally I thought both were bad imo. I think it's called the song of emtotion? with Sridevi, and I realized you don't see actresses dance that well in today's time. Even the best dancer moves very mechanically and without grace.

I think more so than ever BW needs big massy levent films(balancing content with typical masala) that you can go with family/friends and enjoy leaving behind your so called real life. The kind that our critics love to browbeat.

Too bad we don’t have stars (like amitabh, shah, salman, Madhuri, Ash) who can hold your attention for 2+ hours to just entertain you. I remember watching movies in theatres and when songs would play, the energy in the hall would just change!

sadly, content films tend to be niche films, and You can catch them in OTT. You want to watch just simplistic mindless content to just distract you without any thought… watch a daily soap. Both of them are easily accessible without hassle.
