Late last year there were talks of the senior Chopra – Yash – to get back behind the camera and direct SRK in the hope of redeeming some of Yash Raj's lost honour.
But sources within Yash Raj tell us that head honcho Aditya Chopra recently turned to YRF's blue eyed boy, Shah Rukh Khan, for help as he wanted to take position in the director's seat.
"Adi went and met Shah Rukh. He wanted to direct a film but at that point things were quite tense between Yash uncle and Adi. In fact they were close to not speaking to one another. So then Adi went and spoke to SRK. He told him how he wanted to… needed to….direct this film."
"In some ways he was probably hoping to correct what have been YRF's past mistakes in his care. So then SRK spoke to Yash uncle and convinced him to let Adi take the film and direct him," adds our source.
Shah Rukh till date continues to feel obligated to Adi and so he couldn't turn him down when he came to him for intervention. "So then Adi asked SRK to help him convince daddy dearest about how it would be beneficial for Aditya to direct the film considering it's his script and his idea. After a lot of convincing by the King Khan, Yash uncle finally relented and agreed to let Aditya direct Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi," says our source.
Rumours from the Yash Raj camp suggest that things aren't very pleasant between Yash Chopra and his son. Other than Chak De! India YRF had a series of flops in 2007 and the start this year with Tashan has been anything but satisfactory either.
