Dinesh Karthik walked off the field with a suspected lower-back injury in the game against South Africa. He batted in Adelaide's indoor nets on the eve of the match and was also put through a 'keeping drill. Dravid said a call on him would be taken based on how he pulls up on the morning of the match. If not fully fit, India have a straight swap available in Rishabh Pant.

India also made the tactical move of playing Deepak Hooda instead of Axar Patel, a batting all-rounder for a bowling all-rounder in bowler-friendly conditions. They might want to retain him with Bangladesh playing four lefties in their top-six.
