I am not very religious. I go to temple whenever it’s convenient. I identify as Hindu. It gives me freedom to be whatever I want to be. And I want my kids to have the same, Freedom and wisdom!
My Father is ardent reader of spiritual books. He is very Practically spiritual. Growing up, I heard a lot about Swami Vivekananda, Ram Krishna Paramhans and many others. My Nani used to have this great knack of story telling. I heard such great mythological stories from her in depth. One of my most fond memories.
My Parents faith is very strong. Mine gets shaky after turbulence. I am learning to have that unwavering faith where you believe that things happen for a reason.
I do love culture and traditions. I love following them. I love festivals. They fill me with such enthusiasm for life.
Me and my husband are not religious people. Mainly my husband. He is an atheist. But our 2 years old is always fascinated by Gods and Goddesses. He asks us lot of questions regarding them. We find it quite amusing of him turning out to be like that. 😆
My family thinks he takes after my Grandpa. My Grandpa is an ardent devotee of God Hanuman. He would pray in the morning and so, I grew up hearing Hanuman Chalisa at home everyday.
As a child, I used to have scary dreams and my Mom told me to recite Hanuman Chalisa before bed. It started helping me. Unconscious mind working I guess. I know chalisa by heart. I recited that a lot during pregnancy. It could be coz of that.
But this little guy is adorable. I showed him Hanuman animated movie recently and oh my, he loved it. He told his teacher the other day, I am Hanuman. Teacher was like - what? And then he says I have powers like Monkey God. I can fly. Raises his hand, puffs his chest and says, I am Hanuman. 😆
I hear ya Maroon.
I’m a Hindu by birth. Not very religious but I do celebrate all Hindu festivals as it spreads positive vibes in my house.
But, my husband and my 6 yo son are religious and say shlokas daily in the morning.. and my son steals curd and drinks it in big scoops just like his favourite god Krishna.. ❤️😆

I try my best to not share too much personal stuff over here, but something about this post really wants me to, may be I'll edit it later but for now..

A few years ago, I always had a very fun way of viewing my religion and God as amazing stories, philosophies, vibrant chants, peaceful temples and of course the never ending festivals, rarely ever did it turn to me desperately holding on to my prayers to save something very dear to me except for once, eventually though I didn't exactly get what I wished for, it kind of devastated me and probably immediately I might have said that my prayers didn't get answered but I think that defining moment of my life really made me sensitive about things around me, I truly felt for the very first time, what Godliness meant in forms of nature, events, humans etc. They say, if you survive something which you thought you wouldn't have, then it has only made you stronger, that 'it' for me is my relation with all things Godly. Things that go beyond your usual reason, the universe has its way of showing you some light in darkest of times, from unexpected places.
I'm not very religious in conventional terms, as in the pooja part, but it is just that, I have more respect now and am less dismissive about the unshakable faith of people around me.
I am a Sikh by birth and not very religious I believe in GOD though my family practices sikhism( Sikh religion) mainly but also we goto the Hindu temple, church, masque Etc and celebrate other holidays as well. Plus, many in my immediate family have married other castes/religions so that too takes into account!! And I have an open mind to others religions and their beliefs!!
Me personally I believe in God and that he/she is ONE more then religion and that he/she is everywhere so I can pray or think on them anywhere I am and know my thoughts and with me at all times !!

I relate 100%.
I think when we are in our 20s, we tend to behave like Vijay from Deewar. Questioning and telling Bhagvan ki aisa kyu kiya aapne.
But as you age, experiences add on. My father often said that you have this debt with some people and that’s why they come in your life. Good and bad both. You have to live past through them. I argued a lot.
Trust me last 15 years, I have experienced both. I got some good people out of nowhere to help me in a situation least expected in a new country at a random place. And then some bad people which put me off from certain decisions and turned out to be best thing happened.
@bold - exactly the same! I am like it’s ok if Pooja path gives them happiness. Although I have less tolerance for rigid and superstitious behaviors. 😆
I can recite Hanuman Chalisa by heart. I find it to be very powerful. My mom is still shocked to this day. I was pretty much an atheist until my late 20s. I found God at 27. Haven’t looked back. My goal is to be able to recite the Shiva Stotram on day. I haven’t succeeded yet. Listening to the Maha Mritunjay Mantra calms me down. If I had to have a favorite God, it would probably be Shiva.
But in my heart of hearts, I prefer to be a witch. I practice herbal magic whenever I can. It lets me practice whatever I like to believe and focus on all the good things from any religion I learn about.
