The grey shades of the three women characters

Apart from the love story of the leads, what I find the most intriguing about the show are the character arcs of Satyavati, Priya and Amba as well as their potential development in future.

Satyavati: I find her the most interesting of the three. She is shown to be a devoted wife and a caring mother to her step-son as well as her biological children. However, is she really all that great? In the previous episodes we saw her mindset regarding the place of women in the household. She is against the daughter-in-laws working and being financially independent. I find it a huge red flag. I think more than the age-difference issue, it is this factor which is going to be a hindrance in Videv relationship from Satyavati's side. For surely, Dev and Vidhi both would want the later to progress in her career, isn't it? It would be interesting to see how Vidhi becomes a ambitious, career-oriented girl under Dev's influence and how Dev will oppose Satyavati's views then, even though he doesn't support Priya's presently. Secondly, I was wondering about the reason behind Dev not actively pursuing romantic relationships. His present reasons, while understandable, seems only an excuse? I was wondering whether, like Bhishma pitamaha, he too had taken the vow to remain childless in front of his father? Does he sub-consciously know that his 'loving mother' would like him to keep that end of the pact? In that case, Satyavati may not mind a middle-aged woman like Amba to be his bride, but may have a problem with a much younger girl.

The next character is Priya. While she may have been portrayed as a bad bahu, I have a lot of sympathy for her. May be she isn't all that bad and just frustrated because she feels isolated and neglected in the regressive and unsupportive household? May be her frustration comes from the fact that she has been reduced to a womb which must produce sons and cannot pursue her own ambitions? I really hope that lack of support from Dev's side is not because he agrees with his mother's views regarding the women's place, but it is because he doesn't trust Priya for some reason.

Similarly, the recent episodes have indicated that Amba is not all that evil either. I hope it remains so in future as well. Personally I would like to have her own love story with a much younger man so that the title of the show is really justified (more on this later).
