@birdie. Not my experience personally but just a general remark I have seen amongst guys who have had women/wives cheat on them and they were not only bitter but went on and on regarding them calling them names etc.. even after their divorce !! Well those who want to make their marriage work it’s their choice just as those who want not too!!

Like I know some women who much older or divorced with kids will settle and excited when a young guy is interested in them now unless they a Malika arora khan or some women whose really sexy or looks so much younger at her age in mind their is something fishy 🤐

lol thanks for bringing up Mallika Arora. I think a lot women here have even criticized Arjun Kapoor for being involved with Mallika Arora. 😆Have you seen me do it? Talk about the other feminist word- ageist or whatever. I got perfect scores on those stupid tests, yet I never saw that word used so often till we got here. Great learning place, this here. So much new vocabulary. 😆

Yes, but Jaya did live upto today’s times, right? Surely, somewhere in the entire duration from the 80s to modern times, she managed to have enough wealth in her name to take a strong stand. Let’s not excuse this victim mentality as Jaya wasn’t stuck in a time loop.

I have no sympathies because my mother left an abusive marriage with zilch to her name, a kid in tow. She didn’t do it at once, but she did it eventually.

The same can’t be said for these Bollywood wives with access to far superior resources than a common person. Then, it comes down to lack of courage and convenience, and I have zero sympathies to offer someone like that.

Kudos to your mom.

Circumstances are diff though.

Jaya wasn't in an abusive marriage. Her husband cheated.

She wouldn't get work in films if she left. She's not educated to do anything else.

Her kids were safe no matter what else Amitabh did. Her kids would grow up with advantages.

I'm not saying she's right to have stuck with him. I'm saying people have their calculations besides bhala hai, bura hai, jaisa bhi hain.

For every man who is cheating, there's a woman involved too, many of whom might be married. So now, who is generalizing. Should we say it stems from some deep-rooted man-hating thing? You know, similar personal attacks have been made on me.😆

anyway, lets not make me a scapegoat for other people's failings, how about that? I am very clear that in a country such as ours, it would be economically ruinous for the vast majority of women or men to end up getting divorced. That's a luxury most cant exactly afford. Idea should be to try to work out things. That's what marriage counsellors would also suggest. Listening to a bunch of unhappy feminists is the wrong thing to do imo. They cant even get their own lives sorted.😉

Why would you assume she won’t get work if she left? Divorced women like Dimple did get work post their marriages ending.

Jaya even belonged to an affluent household and didn’t need AB’s money to sustain herself or her kids 🤷‍♀️

It’s highly unlikely that she was a full on bechari with such heavy resources at hand. This was pure convenience for her and women of that time put up with their cheating husbands. That makes them responsible for their own unhappiness and undeserving of any sympathy.

Jaya's dad was a journo. Not rich.

Amitabh even got Kader Khan banned for not calling him sir. How do you think AB would've reacted if Jaya walked out and took the kids?

Rajesh was done for by the time Dimple walked out. He had no power. Even then, she hooked up with Sunny, I think partly for money.

These are uneducated women we are talking about. They're in mags, so we think they're well informed, but they're not. There's even a story about frigging SRIDEVI thinking she got ovarian cancer when her belly started swelling.

Female BW actors never were smart enough to have saved any money back in the day. The stories are many. Even the properties brought in their name after marriage were not theirs to keep BY LAW.

Yes, Jaya could've chosen to live a lower middle class life in Bengal. Which would've been dignified.

But then there's the social ostracization. It was very real back in the day. Her children would've been taunted day in and day out.

What I'm saying is many factors go into a decision.

I can’t stop laughing at the Sridevi example 😆 How exactly do you know this? Spill the tea. Did a magazine immortalise this conclusion of Sridevi’s? 🤣 How mortifying.

As for Jaya, as long as you are calling her dumb, we are on the same page. I just don’t think she deserves sympathy and is as much to blame as Rekha and AB.

I also agree that many factors go into a decision like divorce, but time did move on from the 80s. Even taking everything you have mentioned as hard facts, the laws changed, society became more acceptable towards divorce and most importantly, her children grew up.

The fact that she still chose to stick with AB screams that his philandering ways were acceptable to her all along. Why should anyone feel bad for her then?

Jaya Bhaduri is a FTII graduate that too a gold medalist! It is not easy to get into FTII not in those days for sure. Why are people here calling her uneducated and someone with no means to live on her own!?

One of the rags from back in the day said that thing about cancer 😆. Sri used to get mocked all the time.

I'd call these woman uninformed rather than dumb. Some of them were deliberately kept that way by their own moms. Sridevi's mom, Hema's mom...

Social conditioning is another thing. It's easy for us with internet at our fingertips and the laws/society much more balanced to say what they should've done. Actresses earned, their families spent, and the women expected future hubbies to take care of financial future. It was shortsighted but also how things were.

Yeah, Jaya could've left after the kids were grown.
