How much does it need to recover to be a hit?

The film's budget is 400-500 crore, so it needs to earn 600-700cr in order to be a clean blockbuster hit. However, this forum will dillute this truth, they can deny, bargain and reject as much as they wont but basic math will always win in the end.

This will be HGOTY of bollywood year. Vikram Vedha will not come anywhere close, as the hype and buzz of this movie will continue for atleast a month. I am expecting 350-400 crore total. VV will be lucky to cross 150 crore based on whatever I have seen.

Gangu had a huge budget but I don't think it had 190 crore(what did they spend it on).

It was a movie that could have been made under 30cr and then could have been a huge hit.

The question is will distributors get money that is what it comes to if a movie is a hit or flop.

Producers make money through other avenues including ott, and other areas.

And that is why a Pushpa, RRR, KGF2, BB2 were touted to have done well as the distributor made money. And all were declared BB after a week. And we have Brahmastra being declared a hit even before the Monday.

It opened well but most of the reviews have been mixed to bad. You will require people to come and watch your films in large numbers after the weekend. Then it is a hit. They should have waited till next week to proclaim anything. Even genuine articles and numbers will seem fake now

What this article is saying is that Disney isn’t looking to make a profit out of Brahmstra but rather establish the world of high tech digital astras for future movies in India. They acknowledge that the movie cost a lot and it probably won’t recover it’s costs. However after Brahmstra, Disney owns the basic blueprint of of the movie, everything about Brahmstra is now Disney’s intellectual property, and making the next movie can be done with a much more controlled budget and those future movies can become profitable for Disney. Disney according to this article could be looking at a franchise that can work for the next 10-20 years.

Theoretically this can be true. Disney could be looking at taking a loss here for big profits down the line. Whether it’s true or not remains to be seen.
