As it happens, Gulzar sahab was in the US recently. Some members of my group had a chance to visit with him for 4 hours at someone's home! Unfortunately I couldn't make it because of work.... Anyway, I believe Woh Shaam Kucch Ajeeb Thi was considered by Kishore da himself as among his top 5 favorites. I just love the song!!!

as an aside, I had a chance to do a book report on Khamoshi in college. We were asked to write about a movie we had seen and deal with it in terms of freudian psychology. My mother recommended I watch Khamoshi- one of her favorite songs has been Humne Dekhi Hai. I couldn't make much headway with it till she provided me with interesting perspectives/ analysis that allowed me to do well in that course.

@B & U: Please do let me know how did you do it in that project. I'm a huge fan of Sigmund Freud and his weird theories😆about anything and everything. His interpretation of dreams always intrigue me. We did an analysis on Bhoolbhulaiya movie but were free to attach as many theories as we could..not necessarily of Sigmund's. It was fun 😆

And regarding the songs you posted ..I'll certainly listen to them and will get back to you 😆 thanks for fulfilling the request. ❤️

Hey,

I just listened to your performances. They're undoubtedly beautiful songs and your voice is very well suited to them, esp. the first one. I remember you saying that Woh Shaam Kuch Ajeeb is one of your all time favorites. That was the first time I listened to it. And a couple more times afterwards ... enough for it to sound familiar by now.

I think you did full justice to it. Not sure if my observation is correct, but you really ace the songs that flow evenly without going too high. Your voice makes them sound effortless, thought I'm sure it requires some form of control on your part.

And hey, listen to all those guys cheering and hooting for you .... you def. know how to work an audience. 👏

Roop Tera Mastana is one of my favorites, and I imagine that couldn't have been easy with all the vocal tricks it must require to convey the passion/story of the song. Tough pick but you held the notes and it was a great overall performance.

Mere Sapnon ki Rani -- I could listen to that noise all day and night cuz it's soothing to my ears. :p

I'm not familiar with the remaining songs but I listened to them. and I'm sure it all added up to a perfect tribute to the phenomenon that Kishore Kumar was and still is in the world of Indian music.

Lastly, it was very interesting to read all those behind the scene stories from Viswasruti. Very fascinating, I must say.

and your story on that Khamoshi song, which I had to look up on google, was also touching. amazing poetry.

Thanks again for sharing your voice (probably the closest thing us IF people will ever get to your identity, apart from that DP) and all the stories to go with it.

Thanks... great feedback! Gracias! Muchos! :)

I think each of these songs has a unique challenge for someone like me. Mere sapnon ki rani imo probably has the smallest range but it goes very fast so one needs to make quick transitions. The other songs have a lot more range and go quite high though it may not seem like that- depends on how low one can start without the whole thing sounding off pitch. The most difficult part was getting the right feel and that involved a lot of tiny things that one has to do right that I keep learning and have a lot more work ahead. Hindi songs also require a lot more clarity in terms of enunciation than the english numbers, and that is something too where one needs to make a transition. Listening to them again very critically... I think I might be able to improve on them next time.

Again, many thanks for listening... and for the feedback. Am so happy that you liked it!!!😳

i'll record Woh Shaam Kucch Ajeeb Thi again some day, hopefully in a less boisterous setting next time. The music was too loud and it drowned out my ability to hear myself. :)

i was enjoying myself. Getting in front of the audience is like falling in love.😆 I started with one group a couple of years ago, and have joined another one too, it's been that much fun. These days, with all the technology and tracks available online, it's also so much easier to put together events. Back in college, we had to gather our band each time we wanted to play... the logistics were harder and the sessions were infrequent.

doubt if I still have notes about khamoshi but i'll see. I just remember that my mom's interpretation was a lot different than mine. I think her insights helped me maintain straight As, else I might have dropped a grade because of that course. Never got back and told her but will now that I am reminded. I think we take things for granted.

thanks for listening and appreciating what I had.

First of all, great selection of songs you've chosen, you've got good taste in music. 👍🏼 Your voice suits the old Hindi songs perfectly, you've got a good range, you can sing quite high without going falsetto, and you sang really well.

The only thing I noticed was that in some of the songs, especially near the start, the timing is slightly off, but then you rectify it as you're singing along. That usually happens to me when I'm unfamiliar with a song, or the lyrics on the screen are not in sync with the music, which is why I don't pay much attention to the rolling on the screen anymore.

Thanks for sharing Birdie, and you mentioned that you're learning Arijit songs, I can't wait to hear those too. Btw, whenever I go to listen to your entry in the singing competition, you've already deleted the clip 😆 please keep it longer, or tag me, cause the bloody thread is hard to find. 😆

wow- that's great feedback. Someone else had also pointed out that my timings are off at the start... and your observation confirms it. You are also right- I don't remember the lyrics, so between trying to look at the audience and reading the lines, I am probably getting thrown off. Realistically, there's no way for me to memorize all the songs because I like to sing lots of different songs at random.... whatever comes next as a suggestion. So I'll have to figure out how to get it right. But it identifies something I need to be more cognizant of.

i wasn't too happy with the reverb recordings, so deleted them when those rounds were over. The previous round was supposed to be a duet. I messed up a bit, trying to do the female part. I think I should have just used the male voice even where she sings. Never participated in anything like this before so didn't know what they were looking for. My latest that I just sent in is Tere Bina Zindagi Se. I think I ended up with a hybrid feel between the female/ male. Kishore da's voice to me conveys power and raw emotion, hers a pensive soft feel. And I was trying to mix the two! :) I'd probably be better off next time just sticking to male but that just dawned on me now. :)

thanks again for the tips. Do keep them coming. Just loved the feedback!
