Chola song from PS-1 (Mani Ratnam)

Loved the Chola Chola song from Mani Ratnam's magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan (PS-1). A martial anthem in the tradition of Malhari. Sung by the Heir to the Chola throne, Aditya Karikalan (Vikram).It is equally about the glories of the Chola empire as well as about his private grief- about the wounds Nandini (Aishwariya Rai) dealt him and his determination to find solace in war and alcohol. So you get Bajirao and Devdas in one song. Here's the link to the Hindi version.

The first song was underwhelming. But this one is one of those fast rousing A.R. Rahman songs you immediately fall in love with.

The bearded wild man with a lean,wiry body and a crazy gleam in his eye seems to be the flavor of the season. Both Vikram and Hrithik carry it off well.

I thought the general consensus was that Hrithik IS the most handsome man in Bollywood (if not India)😕. I've never thought Vikram particularly attractive before. But he seems to be completely immersed in the character as a heartbroken warrior.

Can’t wait for this magnum opus. But got to admit that ARR lost some of his flair.😒

The best work of ARR always comes for Maniratnam movies! Loved the song in all the languages. Telugu n Tamil are specifically outstanding!

The first song, that Kaveri one was pretty meh. But this one is actually good . Maybe not up to ARR's standard from the 90s. But other than ARR and Pritam there's not much good music left in Bollywood at all. I'll take what I can get.

I don't like the lyrics (dubbed wale)

But then I always like the original ones.

QQ: Did Raavan also have remade songs? Coz the lyricist did a great job there.

I think Keeravani is the best in the business today whose music simply elevates every scene to another level. ARR’s music has always been the slow burn kind. Just hope everything will come together for this because as a big screen cinema lover, I need this to work🤞
