Meet Ahmad Ibn Umar, child actor who played young Aamir Khan in Laal Singh Chaddha

Laal Singh Chaddha: A Kashmiri boy, 10-year-old Ahmad Ibn Umar hails from the Zaldagar area

Aamir Khan starrer Laal Singh Chaddha opened to mixed reviews from critics and audience following it's release in theatres on August 11. While many hailed the film as better than original, several others called it a cheap adaptation of the 1994 iconic film Forrest Gump. But the one thing everyone agreed on was that child actor Ahmad Ibn Umar, who essayed the role of young Aamir Khan in the film, was outstanding.

A Kashmiri boy, 10-year-old Ahmad Ibn Umar hails from the Zaldagar area of Downtown Srinagar. As for his folks, his father is a businessman and mother, a homemaker, as per a report in shethepeople.com.

A 4th grade student, Ahmad Ibn Umar made his onscreen debut in the 2019 film Notebook. As per starsunfolded.com, Ahmad Ibn Umar started giving auditions for films at the age of four. The portal while quoting one of his interviews to a local media wrote that though Ahmad failed several times in auditions, he did not give up.

At he age of six, Ahmad featured as young Captain Kabir Kaul in the film romantic-drama film Notebook which was released in 2019. He reportedly also participated in several fashion shows. In 2021, Ahmad Ibn Umar featured in a music video titled 'Bas Ek Tera Main Hoke'. He has also featured in several TV commercials.

Reportedly, for hijm to be selected for young Aamir Khan's role in Laal Singh Chaddha, Ahmad had to undergo a lot of training, did several workshops and gave interviews.

As per several media reports, singer Gippy Grewal's son Shinda Grewal was suppose to essay the role of young Aamir Khan in Laal Singh Chaddha. It was when Grewal denied to cut his hair for the film, that the role went to Ahmad.

Speaking about Laal Singh Chaddha, the film is an official Hindi adaptation of the Academy Award-winning 1994 film Forrest Gump, which had Tom Hanks in the lead role. Kareena Kapoor Khan is also a part of the film.

*this kid easily stole the show, is part of most heartwarming and emotional scenes of the film and easily acted better than Aamir and his eyes, face alone spoke volumes. He makes heart melt. AKP has knack of finding adorable and talented child artistes. I wish this kid gets more work and awards.

Watched the movie today, and loved it.

As someone who’s seen FG several times over the years I’ll comfortably say this was a very well done adaptation. Forest Gump is not a logical movie. It’s an emotional movie about friendship and love and relationships, and serendipity. If one decides to think too logically about the story of FG or LSC they will not enjoy it. Keeping that in mind, LSC was full of love and humanity. How I wish it hadn’t flopped because it truly had a great message.

I think everyone got too caught up with Aamir’s eyes and “mm” during the trailer. But beyond that he really showed the essence of Lal amazingly well. A boy who listened to his mother, a man who loved Rupa unconditionally, a friend who kept promises to Bala. He was honest and protective and full of heart and innocence. Kareena was, dare I say, perfection. She looked beautiful, acted beautifully, and as always has great chemistry with Aamir. Every praise for Mona Singh is well deserved and then some. The kids did phenomenal work as did Manav Vij.

Laal Singh Chaddha fell on Thursday again even though it was a holiday for Janmashtami. The collections of the for the first week are a little over 50 crore nett. The rejection of the film is at such a level that even on holidays the collections are going down.

Laal Singh Chaddha has seen huge recoveries from non theatrical sources which will go to around 180 crore but still the film will suffer heavy losses. This is the second event film to go horribly wrong after 83 post the pandemic. Theatrically it is far worse than that film but commercially less as Aamir Khan is likely to absorb some of the huge losses a bit like Shahrukh Khan did in Zero.. The collections of Lal Singh Chaddha till date are as follows.

Raksha Bandhan showed very limited growth on Thursday which was a holiday for Janmashtami. the film has ended the first week witha round 37.50 crore nett. the film has finally caught the collections of Laal Singh Chaddha mainly as Hindi circuits are far ahead of Laal Singh Chaddha.

This film will be saved by the huge satellite and digital revenue of 125 crore but only god knows how the holders of these rights will recover the money. The collections of Raksha Bandhan till date are as follows.

Some movies should never ever be remade even in Hollywood (Jaws, Exorcist (its sad that blumhouse are doing this exact thing now), Godfather..etc. It's the same for FG. No remake in hollywood or in any other decent movie industry.

The chances of surpassing the original is quite low and even by some incredible luck, the remake surpasses the original, you will still have fans of the original attacking the remake. So why bother ?

Cinema is changing and along with that....... the audience taste is evolving too. The portion of the population who come to theatre want an out of the world experience. Why would someone spend so much time, money and inconvenience to go to a crowded theatre if the movie ends up being a safe and run of the mill type of story that they can catch on streaming services.

RRR was epic (although it was no Bahubali). KGF2 paid it's due in the 1st part (which if you think about it was all the marketing it needed). And Vikram was a multi-starrer where a character who was not the main part of the movie, stole the show.. All of these movies gave an "event" feel to the movie goers.

So some advice for the 3 icons (Khans) of this industry. Give the audience an "event" movie and you will be rewarded. If the whole movie is about you, or involves you single handedly beating 10 baddies with badly choreographed fight scenes it just ain't gonna work. Also if you think having MTV like dance chorography will alone save the movie, be prepared to lose loads of $$$. Just look at the humble pie Kamalhassan had to eat to make Vikram the biggest movie in TN. The Kamalhassan of yesteryears would not have allowed 2 other actors to have similar screen time as himself, let alone have another actor steal the whole movie with his climax entry.

Such an event film could be a movie where all 3 Khans are an ensemble leading cast (with no ego trips)...just to show that they can do it, that they can be a kind of Trimurti...
