Aug 11th: A reason to smile

I found this episode to be a mixed bag. It started off a bit over the top but found its way back to its core more or less by the end.

There is no getting around it - Dev's behavior was over the line today and a notable deviation from the character that was established in the first two weeks. I can understand he was hurt over his brother fighting with him but the things he said to Vidhi were way out of line when HE was the one who INSISTED on offering her a job in his office while very well knowing her "lack of qualifications". There was zero awareness in him about his misbehavior and he spent the whole epi stewing over his failure to make his brother happyšŸ¤”.

Clearly, we have now seen what Dev's triggers are. He resents any overlapping between his professional and personal lives....he can otherwise seem all calm, collected and even affable but the moment he feels someone is getting familiar about his personal life, he explodes as he did on Vidhi today without any warning. I guess this will cause issues further down the line in the story. He isn't all there temperament wise. Pity. It was beginning to seem like we may finally have an ML without cliched anger issues...but alas, ITV can never think beyond thatšŸ˜†.

Vidhi was hurt but the story jumped quickly to her trying to focus on her studying for some exam and then next morning both Vidhi-Dev landed up at the orphanage to calm their minds. This is where the epi picked up with Vidhi's interaction with the orphanage kids (the 1, 2, 3, a reason to smile bit) and Dev seeing a different side of Vidhi as she narrates the woodcutter story to the kids and Dev also learns a lesson through it. The lesson being that some people cherish the simple things that belong to them rather than getting happy over a gold plated version of the same.

Also, Vidhi seems like a big time environmentalist since she's always finding a way to talk about saving trees in every other convošŸ˜†

In the end, Dev was again shown talking about Vidhi like she is endlessly irritating - something he never said in the last two weeks when he was busy hailing her honestyšŸ˜•šŸ˜†.....but today, all of a sudden he was checking off the full list of cliched ML dialogues to rant about the "irritating" nature of a girl....lol ok.....but yeah in the end he again repeated his "tum bahut alag ho" line.

Precap seems to be a lead up to the promo scene of Dev-Vidhi sharing an auto to escape undetected from the orphanage. I can only hope makers maintain some consistency with Dev's character. After two weeks of hailing Vidhi's honesty, his overnight berating of her was deffo a stretch today. šŸ¤”

The sudden blast over Vidhi with the dialogues delivered by Dev were out of place. Then the transition to Dev's backdrop and the moments at the orphanage were okay, but still felt outlandish in comparison to the arc buildup in the past episodes. Because Dev was the guy who was usually tolerant of Vidhi's mistakes and understood that she was in the learning phase at the time. smiley5Thoug

Was expecting some kinda retrospection perhaps via the orphanage to have some silver lining to the sudden outburst in the office. The "irritating, troublemaker, and factory of mistakes" dialogue felt against Dev's character buildup that's been shown. 😐 😐

I mean, yeah the lesson of learning to retaining simple things was nice but the set up with Dev's reaction felt haphazard, compared to the buildup that's been showcased so far. Though Vidhi's reaction and behavior over the scene did trouble her mind & her sister pointed this out nicely for sure. šŸ‘šŸ¼

You are right.. tbh i didn;t like the episode much today ek toh without any reason dev crossed the line when all she was doign was actually appreciatign his familya nd their values.. dev sahib yeh nahid ekh sake ke it was his brother who initiated the convo due to the smell and noit vidhi she didn't stop his raah.. it was just way too much given ke at every step he has been ok slow and steady you she will elarn.. when has she refused to learn anything matlab jo iske dost 5 din se nahi kar paa rahe thay he did it in1 sec without any reason too.. when he had the reason for example the photocopy etc toh eh showed patience with her and ab kisi aur ka ghussa vidhi pe.. uske baad i felt the whole media reportign wasted too mcuh time... liked the bit at orphange with him wanting to spend time with his mom and woh thoda BG there but vidhi there was just liek sunshine.. 1,2,3 smile was nice but yeha it felt liek dev has split personality all of a sudden with his viddhi tumalag ho and msliling at her story and enjoyign her tactics peeche se.. or to me it felrt like beech main ghsuse wala part is shot separately.. caz baaki sab main toh 3 hafte wale shoiw ka feel tha and beech main thoda random new new filler ka feel tha.. oh another bit i liked was vidhi dealing with her hurt all alone and waise jiski ghabrane se sabko pata chal jata hai ke kuch gadbad hai she held it together and onlyt he sister could figure out that too caz of her trying to focus on study and all she herself didn't let anyone know.

Totally agree with your post you have analysed dev really well he hates any overlap between his personal and professional life there might be a reason to that too.. apart from that yes dev in todays api at least in the initial part seemed a different person altogether but tbh I have actually seen and worked with such a person with a really calm mature demeanour but then they have these spells of outburst and hell breaks loose 😳 This isn't really a nice trait in a person I really wanted him to at least feel bad for shouting at vidhi or at least try to make it upto her someway ..He was all praises for her in the past episodes and now he suddenly finds her irritating I hope apart from this they don't show any toxic traits in him just to show a typical Itv male lead..also want vidhi to speak up even if in her own calm stuttering way but at least tell him that she didn't deserve that humiliation.

Show seems mixed today but I guess some cliches today. Hopefully it does not become where ML again being someone the FL is responsible.

The scenes were also edited weirdly compared to last week.

The issue is that he has been consistently shown defending Vidhi to everyone who was calling her a mess since two weeks.....so now to show him suddenly calling Vidhi a factory of mistakes felt very disjointed and honestly just felt like makers want to go into more cliched territory since they feel audience only reacts when ML is berating FL.....lol

It's not that Dev can't have flaws or can't have a temper...it's about showing it consistently rather than suddenly thrusting it in for the sake of a token conflict setup.

no matter what excuse we make but truth is that you cant disrespect some one in your office especially infront of the peoples who never likes her as well ,office staff doesn't respect her at all and she is a low confidence girl already plus she is new and your friends had sent her to your house why you cant take your anger on them and pored it all out because she is from a middle class family ?every one have a respect never mind if they are lower than you or upper . Really I am very disappointed by his behaviour .

I'm also hoping this was a one off thing from Dev but I can't be sure given the tendencies of ITV to write typical stuff.....If they show him feeling entitled to lash out at Vidhi each time he has some issue with his family, it's gonna be a turn off for me.

Let's see if Dev-Vidhi talk about this in the auto ride...I don't have high hopes waise.....lol....Dev doesn't seem to have any realization about his misbehavior and seems to feel quite entitled to it - possibly also cuz he considers Vidhi just some random outsider at this pointšŸ˜†....but even then, if they have tried to establish him as a gentleman, it's deffo at odds that he hasn't reflect on his behavior with Vidhi. I can even understand his only focus in life is serving his useless and ungrateful family....lol but the tunnel vision was a bit much in the epi yesterday.

Dunno if the issue is that the makers want to keep a token conflict percolating to keep a distance between DV cuz ITV logic seems to be that if you treat someone with the basic courtesy of a human being, that means you will instantly fall in love with themšŸ˜•šŸ˜†.....so apparently you must keep berating them to so that distance is maintained for story to "build"šŸ˜†.....I thought they already had a concept in this story about the age gap being enough of a deterrent for their story....but now they apparently need to show Dev berating her to really make it work?šŸ˜•šŸ˜†

Oh I liked this bit too....honestly Vidhi ka character consistency is being maintained and that is why she has grown on me even with all her anxiety issues....she felt comfortable talking to Dev cuz he made such a big show of how he values her honesty and wants her to succeed....but now he only flipped so badly on her - still she tried to handle it well and I liked her portion at the orphanage also.

My wariness is that they are showing Dev ki yeh split personality and temper issues to set a base for some weird twist in the future as per the original šŸ¤”.....I'm still hoping it doesn't come to that....sigh.

Good point about the editing feeling disjointed too. Like they shot some portions out of order and just patched them together for this epi.

I don't mind some cliches....but it's about how you develop the characteristics of the characters. Dev was feeling like a rare mature ML on ITV and they mostly flushed that down the drain today....lol. Even in the last scene, he had a chance to reflect a bit on his misbehavior after smiling over Vidhi's woodcutter story but instead all he did was blab some bullshit lines about her being a factory of mistakes. The timing of all this is quite messy given that they never showed Dev thinking about her mistakes before this.
