Member topic: Ever encountered a homeless person?

I just wanted to ask this to anyone who has had the same experience. Today, I went to a Starbucks and a homeless man approached me for money. I said "leave me alone and don't ask people for money." The man got irate and almost assaulted me. Starbucks didn't do anything. I will never talk to anyone again. This world is scary and it sucks to live with stupid people like this. What do you think?

yes, I have. I usually just give them a dollar if I have change on me. that usually makes their day!

you were mean for no reason! being them is already harsh enough -- they don't need people with jobs and roofs over their heads insulting them from their high horse too.

Starbucks implemented open bathroom policy for anybody and everybody last year, that didn’t go well (Gee, Who would’ve thought?)

Now they’re closing shops in 16 locations, all in the West Coast - Six stores will close in Greater Los Angeles; six in Greater Seattle; two in Portland, Oregon; one in Philadelphia and one in D.C -

(and all of them have exploding homeless problem ) because of safety concerns

I have given them money or food to eat

I usually don't talk to them apart from saying you are welcome

Homeless people are everywhere. You must have to live a darn sheltered life to go a lifetime without coming across a homeless person.

If it is a rare day I have cash on me, I will give them something. But mostly, I never carry cash. I offer to buy them something at a store. I refuse if they ask for cigarettes or tobacco. The genuine ones usually will usually ask for food and water/juice.

If you don't have something, just move on. No need to say leave me alone etc. Why hurt someone who is already down on their luck? It is also a safety issue. Many homeless folks often have mental health issues or addiction issues. Don't unecessarily provoke them.
