Since I haven't watched the movie , I want to take it really slow, like sit back and imagine the alternate universe myself
Also is it necessary to read The Hobbit before The Lord of the Rings?
start with lotr only… 1st part, I read when I was 12/13… it took me 2 months with school and unit tests😆 , following 1month of summer holidays me I completed the rest of the trilogy and read the hobbit and the silmarillion .
I read it again when I was 16 as a part of lit club, it took me a couple of days to do each of the parts and hobbit too…😊 (mind you I was just reading them continuously… no other obligations)
Lotr has a world larger than Harry Potter, while hp is a kind of bildungsroman of both hp and tr/vol in a definitive world, where the character depth is established through the events….
Lotr is more about the character’s journey in an elaborate world that is built just by the magic of words, and the symbolic representation of every single description evokes a sense of awe every time you uncover and relate to the happenings as you go through … , the characters are not moving over a lifetime… the story is spread over ages together, but the characters move in shorter time line…. Their depth is not established through events, but uncovered through them.
Tolkien’s characters are black ya white… only few shades of grey are presented in some of the characters… but Rowling’s characters have both the sides to them… you even sympathise with tr at one point and would have wanted hp’s dad to not exist at all☺️
P.S. I am still a potterhead 😆 but kinda Tolkienite too☺️
