It looks like today is the day of International sports/games events.

Chess Olympiad starts today, (the 28th of July) and lasts till August 10.

The first Chess Olympiad in India- that's a bit surprising to me 😲. Thought we would've hosted at least once before, given the passion for chess in the country.

The 44th edition of this prestigious tournament will be played at the Sherton Mahabalipuram Resort and Convention Centre. It is located on East Coast Road Chennai. This tournament will be broadcast live on Doordarshan. Apart from this, the live broadcast can also be seen on Chessbase India and FIDE’s YouTube.

30 Indian players will participate in 6 teams.

The 44th Chess Olympiad has been a tournament of many firsts. This is the first time the Olympiad is being held in the place of origin of chess in India. It is coming to Asia for the first time in three decades. It has the highest number of countries, highest number of teams participating and highest number of entries in the women’s section. The first-ever torch relay started this time and all this will prove to be memories forever. The torch relay has travelled over 27,000km seeking to motivate youngsters to take up chess. It is a proud moment for us that the torch relay for the Olympiad will always start in India. I thank FIDE for this gesture.
