Alia just pretends to be nice with Ranveer because he is public sweet heart.

Even in Bajirao, Ranveer, Priyanka and the MIL all had a certain hamminess to them which really works with the grand dramatic set-up. It was more obvious whenever any of them share a frame with Deepika.

It's more in the sense that the actors still were the more important thing about Devdas or Black. With Ram Leela, also it was Deepika's momentum that got it going. But at this point, he is bigger than Alia or Deepika's names. A-listers do help but audiences also seem to implicitly trust him. Over the years, directors just seem to be becoming more and more important to the film's branding.

DP is not that great of an actress, especially when compared to PC or Ranveer, so more than being restrained, I can comfortably say it is because of her limited range of being dramatic 😆 But yes, I do get what you are saying, dramatic and SLB go hand in hand.

@Bold: Because the visibility of directors also improved na, though I feel in every phase, there have always been directors which were a brand, right from Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Basu Chatterjee, Satyajit Ray, Guru Dutt, Yash Chopra, Mani Ratnam, Subash Ghai, Vishal Bharadwaj, Imtiaz Ali and in really off beat films, RGV, Kashyap, Sriram Raghavan etc, just that only a few sustain that image, few cant hold on it and become poor copies of their earlier self. Don't want to sound politically incorrect but the directors can become bigger than the female stars but if there is a true blue male star, he always becomes the biggest brand of the movie, just that bollywood really doesn't have anybody in that space as of now.

Not including Rajmouli because he is in some other league now, without a single flop whatsoever in his whole career. 😆

I am the only person here who likes Deepika in Bajirao. So I will just shut up about that 😆

Now that you list out the directors and make the point about male stars, it might just be the Khan, HR, Akshay, Ajay era where the actors seem to dominate over the directors' name being more important than actors. And now it's back to directors. I have more thoughts about it but I need to get to work 😆

Ranveer is no kid either. I am sure he can gauge the intentions of people in industry better than all of us. Wonder if it has to do anything with him wanting to stay in KJo's good books, which is what I dislike about most of the rising actors. I really hope Kartik continues to stay away from KJo and I'm thankful to Kat for keeping Vicky away from the KJo gang, otherwise he was this close to becoming Karan's blue eyed boy, oh, the horror!

I think DP-Ranveer know exactly what they are doing. They seem close enough to stay in inside circle, but also maintain their distance outside of limelight. The fact that not one of these industry nepo gang invited to the wedding, even after almost begging on KWK, shows how “close” they are to Kjo and gang.
