There are 40 plus million black Americans as opposed to 4 million desi Americans. The market numbers just don't compute, and Disney would've known it. They either thought comic book/superhero audience would also watch or they were looking at the subcontinent.

I like Marvel but found it difficult to relate with this one, so I quit watching it .

Let anyone say anything , I loved loved loved Ms Marvel and Iman Vellani ! She’s such a revelation..

The VFX and fight sequences seemed clunky but I loved the story .. Ms Marvel is definitely my favorite newbie superhero ⭐️

love the show but absolutely not liking Ms Marvels parents casting. The mom and dad both didn’t do good acting

Kamala is a Hindu Sanskrit name which means "lotus".

I know the writer wanted to go with alliteration, like Peter Parker, Loki Laufeyson, Steven Strange etc...but it could have been more accurate.

Actually i had a discussion regarding this on reddit and got clarified by a fellow member. Her name pronounces Kamaala in the show and this originates from the word Kamaal which means wonder or marvel. Thats why she is ms marvel.

So its not basically Kamala with short A which mens lotus. If you hear her name in the show and also hear the same name in Never have i ever tv show you will understand the difference between the pronunciation

So G W Wilson says

"Kamala--envisioned as a feminized iteration of Kamal--is not a real-real name in Arabic or Urdu; the closest one can get and still be grammatically okay is Kamila, which has a slightly different (though related) meaning. The explanation is: I overthink names."

"(This is also why Nakia has an unusual, non-Turkish name--the backstory, which we never had room to get around to, was that she's named after the nurse who delivered her. And that she+Kamala bonded about their unusual names when they were kids. Again, I overthink.)"

"In conclusion, the English transliterations of Kamala Khan (aka Ms Marvel) and Kamala Harris (our Dem VP nominee) may be the same, but they are 2 different names from 2 different language families ( कमल vs كمالة), have different meanings, and are pronounced differently."

Maybe I was right, Kamala Khan is not an authentic name for a desi Muslim or any Muslim girl

They could have named her Kamila or any other authentic name if it was alliteration they were after

I think they did this to get Indian market too

Sadly it didn't happen

Still, Kamaala is not a real name. Muslim men named Kamaal exist. But you won't find anyone named Kamaala in the Urdu/Arabic World.

I watched the show, saw all 6 episodes released. Yes, there are few scenes which are haphazard you can blame the Disney on how they format their episodes and give such less numbers to tell a proper story. This show needed more spread out episodes, as this is new superhero.

If the movie "The Marvels" succeed, she has enough screen time then possibly people will go and watch season 1. When the season 2 releases a possible of rise in viewership will also increase.

Well, for one I enjoyed the show and you must have patience enough to watch the introduction and background of the new character.

Haan so then write it as Kamaala na. Change the spelling, avoid the confusion.

Kamala is from Sanskrit and I've never heard any non-Hindu keeping that name.

My point is there are so many names starting with K- Kinza, Kafiya, Kainaat, Kashf, Kaneez, Kausar. Why chose one that can cause genuine confusion 😆
