I'll take a look at CE one of these days.Mahabharata is the gift that keeps on giving. New facets in the characters come to focus as our own life experiences change us. Same with the characters. Similarly Draupadi can be different and want different things at different points in her life. That said, it's the morally gray as well as the emotionally volatile choices of the characters which add color to the epic.Almost everyone in the epic is or was engaged in politics and empire building and building alliances (via marriage and otherwise) at some point.

Oh, I do believe there was honest attraction between her and Arjun after the swayamvara as opposed to only politics and duty with Yudhishthira. They were all young and hormone-happy at some point, I presume.
Nothing else explains his weapon in her room. 😆
But after Arjuna's first exile and return with Subhadra, there was nothing in Panchali's words or deeds which suggested any extra affection or even a sense of loss. In fact, the next sentence after Panchali's acceptance of Subhadra is how happy the ladies were about their situation. People do grow up and move on.
What annoys me is how the minuscule part of her life is ballooned to obscure everything else she ever did.
And her talk after the sex assault in the dice hall was always about crime and punishment and justice. She never changed her stance on it. Suyodhana and gang knew fully well what they were doing, none of them was forced into it, they escalated because there had been no punishment thus far, and they didn't regret any of it. Panchali told Krishna ignoring a crime under the circumstances was a sin in itself, and it was their responsibility as the ruling elite to punish Suyodhana. She said it after multiple attempts at peace failed. Vengeance doesn't wait for even one attempt.
Anyway, happy reading. CE was put together after years of research into more than a 1000 manuscripts, so it's more reliable.
