I think because there is no concept of separation of parent and spouse love. Exactly when a guy says I want someone like my mother ( not the complimentary way) , well you have a mother why do you want another like her? Let me get it - to sleep with her otherwise everything else your mother does it for you anyway then what’s my role in your life?

Yes the kind and rational part I agree but if you are dating her then you must know, right? But as a compliment definitely yes I agree completely there with you.

Last paragraph- completely agree, they can’t see the kids growing up and that’s why make them independent and stop being a helicopter parent. That bond will always be there but now it’s time for the child to fly the nest.

the other issue with these helicopter parents is the lack of financial independence. if you notice, there is no financial independence for these moms. they are dependant on the husband and then it transfers to son. with son, they feel like they have more control and freedom. hence, the arrival of a daughter-in-law is competition and a threat. in some cases, they are right in that the parents end up having to fend for themselves. in PK dramas, you don't see that conflict as much because many of these characters don't even seem to have a job yet and are already married.

thats why I think it is highly important that parents are also financial independent and make plans for their own retirement. it is a good thing here that more and more people are realizing that it is better for both sides to be financial independent of each other.

I remember when that table scene happened before kitchen scene when she told him she is gonna prepare breakfast and she cooks well, one could see a naughty spark in her eyes 😆

Absolutely correct and again from culture context of western parenting - all of us kids had jobs since we were kids. Not child labour type but you mow the lawn and you get paid. My brothers did paper runs and were paid, I and my sisters did mowing lawns, car cleaning, and ironing and we were paid. We had our bank accounts where we saved and weby the time we left home had a good nest egg to survive.

Every child does some of other job here, even at school you can be a teachers assistant and you don’t get paid but it teaches you value of having a job. I agree that south Asian parents don’t do that and it ends up as a disaster later on in the life. My better half was a milk boy in middle school lol 😂 he saved over $7000 and bought his first car from it.

I read an article where the parents were suing their son coz he wouldn’t give them a grand kid - now that’s the height of helicopter parenting don’t you think?

I also felt, when he removed the bangle, she touched her hearings as if she was hinting him to remove those too. But our boy was so naive ,he did not get that, and went to give her bracelet. I guess, she did feel weird when he did not notice earring thing and was all about bracelet. She even was smiling looking at him when he was adjusting the bracelet . 😆

Also when he talked about rest , she did not want that , but she could not say it directly ,so said "in sabke saath" ?
