I think someone said before that it's just a pakistani thing and not something that's done in Islam. I have never heard of anything like ruksati from my muslim friends either. They just have a nikah and comes directly to the wedding reception where we get mutton biriyani and that's it.

There were 2-3 itv dramas based on muslim families like qubool hai but i never saw any of them. If someone watched those, was ruksati shown in those dramas?

I guess its something influenced by bidaai of North Indian wedding it seems. Some pak dramas also shows something called dholki which is similar to Sangeet. I don't even know much about north Indian wedding so pak wedding is even beyond that for me.

What I feel is even after the nikha the girl gets to stay in her home but it's only after ruksati she is send to the husband's home. Since ushna and shehroze stays in the same home we didn't see much difference. They will be legally married but won't be together. If you have seen ishqiya, ramsha's character does nikah without telling her boyfriend hamza but she was still staying with her parents. I think Feroze married hania on the day of ramsha's ruksati to gohar.

Punjabi Hindu wedding is similar to what is shown on tele but Gujarati wedding they have four pheras only and not saat as shown in the tele. Sikh wedding is different too. My brothers all had Punjabi and Gujarati weddings and we had similar functions except the chooda ceremony. My sister married a Sikh boy and there’s was a different one. I have been to two Muslim weddings but there they said qubool hai and then reception that’s it. So I don’t know.
