Speaking of Lata, I felt like writing this -
My earliest memory of listening to Lata's songs were during my teenage years. Even though I knew very little hindi, I dreamed of an imaginary man that I thought would yearn for in the years to come as I hummed along lines with her "na… jiya lage na, tere bina mera kahi….." (Anand)
Long before I knew what love was, my heart beat faster with excitement of emoting impishness when I sang "bahon mein chale aao" especially the line "…phir thame the sajan tumne meri kalai kyun, ha?!"
Decades later, this and thousands of her songs have the same influence on me. None of the songs in other languages have had the same effect on me like her songs did, including my own mother tongue! Thus, Lata was the prime reason for me to fall in love with Hindi language, music and realize what perfection looks like.
Back in the days, I used to have a lyrics book of Lata’s songs, that I used more than the text books in school curriculum.Infact, I owe my hindi vocabulary to hindi cinema and music. Thanks to Lata & the fantastic lyricists for motivating me to go hunt for meaning of lyrics.
On hearing those romantic songs in Lata's voice, I have often wondered - How can a person sing so many romantic songs and not feel anything about it?
----
Next weekend, I have to attend a music party. Practicing couple of her songs now...
Oh wow you seem to be a music l lover.....
Do you sing as well.?
Did anyone watch bhool bhulaiyaa 2?

Fantastically expressed emotions, as usual, Smitha 🤗
I have also always been a lover of old hindi film songs...both my parents as well as grandparents on both sides have been fond of music so I've grown up hearing some or the other song constantly being played.
In fact, one of the only indulgences my parents had made for me in childhood was an Aiwa Walkman at the age 12😳 I think I was the only child I my locality and school who had a Walkman!
I don't have a favourite singer from the olden times, rather each song and each singer/music director have their own place!
But Lata Mangeshkar was certainly a phenomenon! I'm just grateful ro be born in an Era where I could have the privilege of listening to her voice. There is no mood, no emotion for which there isn't a Lata song! 7 decades, 36 languages, innumerable songs...there are just not enough words to describe this lady!
No, I have not had formal training. I have just picked up few songs by listening, thats all!

Mere ghar mai bhi mere parents aur mere nana nani Or mere bade wale chachaji uss era ke die hard fan hai...bas jab dekho vo song sunte rehte hai..❤
Mere nanu ne na uss waqt ki saari filme dekhi hai... Or unko to saare song bhi muh jubani yaad hai... Aaj bhi unse koi bhi song puch lo.. Unko sab pata hota hai konsi film ka tha kisne gaya... Kon hero heroine the sab... Usne ye aadat mumma ko lagi Or unse mujhe..mujhe bhi uss era ke gaane sunna bahut pasand hai... Alag sukoon hai unn gaano mai...❤
