I know India and Indian dynamics much more than you can begun to understand.

so you don't dig presumptuous posts either -- two can play the game, and you started it. You don't know anyone personally here including me. I don't think I had said anything in my posts for you to come here with all guns blazing, questioning people's lives, where their opinions are coming from, discrediting them, etc. just because you can't reason your side with some sense and logic.

If you make sweeping remarks at people and try to pass them all off as one homogenous group (aka "ABCD's"), then you should be willing to take some of it back in kind. See how you went on the defensive to tell people that your opinion matters? -- yeah, you don't want to push others to that spot with your assumptions.

They and them can be used to refer to one person as well.

But given how your totally out of line comments and posts collected "likes" and so many "LOL's," I think I can address you and them collectively as "they" regardless.

Well then criminalize harming others. Not yhe consumption. The latter is just govt paternalism.

lol your argument suffers from the "horse has already left the barn" problem.😆 Here's how-

going by your "govt paternalism" argument, you might next be recommending that we criminalize drunk drivers only if they kill someone, not if they are just driving drunk. See how ridiculous it gets? 😉

coming to drug addicts, a fair number of death row convicts got there because they killed when they were high. You don't want to wait until these idiots have killed, or raped someone because they were high. The "criminalizing" doesn't help the victim when they are dead. Does it?

You don't even realize you're making my argument for me.

Drinking isn't illegal. Drinking and driving is. Drinking and attacking someone is.

Same for drugs. Or should be.

I don't know. Maybe you imbibed before attempting to respond to me. 😆 Or you might have realized how silly you sound.

but the system is working for the most part...and it is important that it does because India cannot afford to have the kind of drug epidemic that western countries have. Yes we have isolated problems in a few states. The problem in punjab specifically stems from the bad guys pushing drugs across the border... in connivance with local mafia. One can argue it is because of easy availability in those states, a problem that would be amplified if the system were legalized.

another point- countries that are very affluent can perhaps afford to deal with the drug addicts... in terms of rehab etc. Developing countries are not as well positioned. Drugs tear apart families that need everyone to be productive and increase poverty in these countries.

overall, we are still nowhere as draconian in our measures as some countries that impose the death penalty. And while we can certainly do better, we are doing pretty good.

You really don't comprehend well, do you?😆No I am not making your argument. I was politely telling you that your argument was silly. The issue is whether one wants to act only after the horse has left the barn. You do. Not me.

Punjab is not an isolated incident. It's the state that's hit the worst. But it's not isolated. I have personally seen massive scale addiction problems in slum kids and homeless in UP, MP and parts of South India. Punjab might be the most extreme state, but a lot of parts are headed that way.

I feel like I am banging my head against the wall at this point. But no one is asking for Legalizing drugs (outside marijuana). People are asking for decriminalising. So that people are actually willing to seek help without the threat of being thrown in jail.

The sale and production still remains illegal under this scheme.
