yea, that would make sense right? but unfortunately many parents don't make divisions in their lifetime. I think easier would be to make a will. at least in india, a person can write off their earned wealth to whoever they wish -- whether it is charity, religious institution, relatives or bunch of random friends. because it is money they earned, they have the right to do with it as they please including not giving to their children if they so wish. as far as I know that applies to any community. the problem is with inherited property -- that you can't just write off to whoever. so in that case, it would be better to divide while they are alive so that adopted/foster children can get their share I guess...

I know of this distant relative who was adopted. everyone knows about it. he inherited everything from his parents and there was no problem in the succession. from what I heard none of the relatives of the family had any problem with the adoption and he gets along well with everyone and is super helpful. so he was never rejected and no one questioned. so yea, maybe the parents wrote it down so that there wouldn't be problems? 🤷

Ushna's mother and Shehroz's father are husband and wife. That make them step siblings. I used to think that Ushna and Shehroz would get married to stop the wedding of their respective parents.

It really doesn't matter if there is no blood relation between them, nor it matters that Ushna is adopted. It's not like Ushna would start considering Zainab as her mother in law as soon as she gets to know about her adoption.

They are acting like 'adoption' is like earth shattering truth. Isn't it normal? They should have informed her when her father was alive.

Yes. During their life everyone has the right to give anyone what he wants, and before death ..thet can leave 1/3 of the property to anyone , this is called : wasiyyat (bequest) .smiley1

Yup tht is wat I was talking abt. Personally, tht is what I would do. Whenever I have kids. I want all to get an equal amount from when I die. I have quite often thought abt adopting some kid. I feel we have way too many orphaned kids in this world. They don’t deserve any of the hardships they face because of it.

Good thinking.. Allah bless you.

In my society, mostly orphan kids are taken care of by another relatives , like : grandparents, uncles, aunts.. but only few relatives treat them like their own kids.😒

just some questions as I am not sure I understand your clarification -- so does that mean there is no legal official adoption? and adoptions are more informal? so what happens with official documents? in this drama, ushna says her full name (including father's name) on her CV when she applies. (there is this scene where shehroz yells at her in the office by calling out her full name).

The concept of adoption as we know it doesn't exist or isn't applicable within islam. What you can do is be a foster caretaker. From what I know about people taking in children, is that often they'll allow like the real last name or father's name to be the middle name and give their name to the child as well.

love that naema is gentle but so very shrewd. she is not a pushover just because she speaks softly or is considerate of others. she knew that zainab's relatives are vultures but was polite as it was their first visit. however, she is smart enough to know their true character and will not be pushed into entertaining them again and leaves it to zainab to handle them. nice!
