Insecurities rising in Alia. Has the forbidden curse struck?π²π
I didn't mean to disregard Samantha's effort completely. It might have come across that way in my wording of the post but I was merely pointing the dynamics that make a song hit or how much credit you can bestow upon on actor/ actress for a special appearance. I had followed Samantha since her first movie in telugu and felt this was a let down in terms of her star dom and this was equally seen in the opinions of general populace of southern states. I based my opinion only on the output I had observed in local film news/cinema circles. Opinions would definitely vary for someone up North or a casual movie goer in some other country.
Rest all, I agree with you.
I wanna have salty aloo.

I agree with most of this. But I think "ultimately that will be Alia's legacy" is where we differ. First of all no-one has ever made it out there on their own. Madhuri Dixit would NOT be where she is if it wasn't for her secretary Rikku doing all that he did for her, putting her in the right place at the right time, if Subhash Ghai didn't put her on the cover of that magazine with that article in 1986, Madhuri wouldn't have even reached Mandakini's level. Same for SRK, without Yash Chopra's strong and sustained entrepreneurship, he would not be even 10% of the star he became. So Alia having Karan Johar helping her get the "right" projects is in the same vein... and MOST importantly: she is the one who is performing each role at the end of the day, Kjo might get her the gig, but she is the one that is delivering earth-shattering performances... that credit is hers and hers alone, and that is her legacy.Originally posted by: IAmLuvBolly
Parineetiβs problem isnβt her lack of script sense. Her problem is her lack of KJo mentorship. Itβs like Aishwarya said a few years ago, itβs very easy to do well when all these great scripts are literally falling in her lap.
Alia is a good actress. Very hard working and even more ambitious. Sheβs got a great filmography and Iβm sure sheβll do even more great films. But the question will always remain, where would she be without KJo? Anything she accomplishes going forward will be connected to what sheβs accomplished so far, and everything sheβs accomplished so far is connected to Karan Johar openly and blatantly favoring her over others. Ultimately that will be Alia Bhattβs legacy. The fact that she didnβt reach where sheβs reached on her own but rather has been elevated there by Karan Johar. And thatβs a sad twist of irony for a girl whoβs all about being considered the best and the greatest.
Wait a minute. That doesn't look like Ranbir's hand π€

ππΌππΌππΌ well written and spot on !
Yes, Aishwarya put it across very correctly that she told Alia directly that she is lucky that she is getting the best scripts and has KJO on her side. Not everyone however talented they are get this from their β1stβ movie itself.

Hey Rekhaji, I didnβt ignore this. Real life got in the way the past few days π.
I donβt disagree with you about everyone needing some type of help or stepping stone to make it. In case of Alia however it appears to be at a much larger scale, or at least more blatant and open. Thatβs why I think her legacy will be how much KJo has handed her things on a silver platter. Another thing thatβs working against Alia is that her privilege has become part of Bollywood pop culture. Sheβs not the only product of nepotism yet sheβs everyoneβs favorite example. Itβs not just everyone on social media talking about it. Even people within the industry have commented and joked about it.
Right script coupled with great direction and production house will make wonders in any decent actors career in film industry.
Keerthi suresh was an average actress until Mahanati but that movie changed public's opinion on her. Now nobody can imagine any other actress in that role but I am sure an equally good or better actor like Nithya menon would have created the same impact if she portrayed that role. Same is the case with Alia, Alia is definitely one of the best actress of this generation but she is in this position because of her personal connections in Bollywood.
Bollywood was never an industry known for talented actors in top league,it was always about looks and glamour and Alia though good looking lacks the looks bollywood demands. If it was not for her connection she would not get the guts to emotionally blackmail Kalanks director and actually say that I would be really upset if you don't finalize me for the lead role. I don't think the industry will pass on positive feedback and promote an outsider to lead directors but a star kid gets all this advantage. Just like Gopichand's kids get special attention in his training centre .
Why Alia is not in the same league of Madhuri, or any of the lead actors of their generation is because they are in this position because of their efforts. They might have made many compromises , sacrifices, just one or 2 flops and directors will not approach them but for insiders if you have some talent you will get ambitious projects as long as you wish to work. Alia despite of being talented her top position is a group effort.
