Kandhe pe tere ye gum ka basta galat hai..

I have been looking for this clip for ages. Its one of my top favorite sequences in Imile.

The poetry, the way its shot, the use of light and dark and the stoney faces of FK and ST. It makes this scene such a treat to watch. Nowadays we are getting nothing from the makers. They hardly spend time on anything except on BM and BD verbally abusing people and kitchen/pantry ingredients together.

But before it all went downhill, we had this. THIS! that made me binge this show. And introduced me to FK and then led me to his other works.

First of all lets all appreciate how well they gave a begining of season 2 vibes with this episode and this shot. This is the literal manifestation of the promo that never aired.

Now let's focus on the situation with these two people. Imlie thinks she is being forced into yet another relationship by her best friend and partner. She is lost and seeks blessing for courage to go through it and survive. Aryan thinks he needs to do this to save Imlie from destroying herself by going back to Babu sahib. He feels he is giving her a choice. He knows he is being heavy handed and what he is doing is heinous. Probably he has hit rock bottom in his eyes as well.

Now look at the backgrounds used for them. Imlie is outside in broad day light, her surrounding are flushed with golden light just before the sun sets. She is alone in a serene spot of water contemplative, all is quiet around her but inside she is chaotic and her eyes reflect that.

He on the other hand is sitting in his office in darkness with his table lamp on binds shut. People in office are leaving for the day and it's chaotic. Artificial lights, artificial walls and noise, he is shutting them out. But in all this chaos he is at peace with his decision. He is calm. He looks at the payal with calm resolve as he shuts out everything else.

The poem itself is so beautifully written:

Kandhe pe tere ghum ka ye basta galat hai,

Tu chal rahi hai jispe wo rasta galat hai,

Janta hoon hai zaruri tera chalna,

Janta hoon dhoop mein tai paon jalna,

Par kya karoon jalta hua Suraj hoon main to,

Chahun bhi to chor doon kaise nikalna,

Main Galat hoon, jo bhi hai meri khata hai,

Janta hoon baat ye mujhko pata hai,

Janta hoon sach kabhi na choregi tu,

Sach k khat pe jo likha tera pata hai,

Jo sach mein mehenga ya sasta galat hai,

Kandhe pe tere ghum ka ye Basta galat hai,

Tu chal rahi hai jispe wo rasta galat hai!

To me the words feel like Aryan's monologue. It's all so apt and epic.

Uff yes... So there was so much anxiety around the proposal here but this was beautiful.

Indeed the makers took a lot of efforts before which seems missing these days, but hota hai, ups and downs are part of storytelling.

Hopefully it will pick up 🤞

Those were the days the makers put real effort to give a poetic narration to Arylie's story. Hope, soon makers will be back entertaining us continuously with such charming episodes.

Team definitely had a well thought plot leading to Arylie wedding and aftermath. So much effort was put in towards the wedding track.. but someone’s abrupt quitting lead to the mess the makers are still cleaning up. Chalo koi nai.. we are finally getting the much awaited falling in love phase. Let’s enjoy while it lasts.
