I will just say one thing - every single child in the world deserves to have unconditional acceptance and love from their parents. And, no matter their perspective, if parents cannot provide that sort of love, the fault lies with the parents and their perspective, not the child.

Some called me brave, but I think I’m the opposite of that.

Recently, I said in one of my responses to Sargam’s post about armchair experts. I am good example of that, I guess. A lot of what I said in those posts were true from personal exp. How & when you voice opinions is important. Similarly, we need to be smart in picking our battles.

I have never spoken back to my parents, esp my father, except when it was about my education. This was not something I could let go & compromise. I chose to stretch and test all limits to go get a professional degree. This may not be a big deal in normal households, but it was an extremely big deal for my parents because of the lack of resources to fund it, coupled with the ridicule from relatives they had to face to "waste" resources on their daughter. This is hard to believe in this time and age, right?

Now, after many years, I wonder if I did the right thing? What have I achieved? Nothing more than my counterparts who had a regular degree. What would my life be if I had not spoken that day? These are lingering questions that haunt me.

Well, I cannot control someone else’s thoughts, perspectives nor can I force them to look at my perspective. All I can control is how I can make a change, when I am in the role of a parent. How am I faring in this role? time will tell…. 😊

In my 3rd year of Engg, one evening there was a small class party hosted at a restaurant. Not sure, what had gotten into me, I decided to sing a song on the stage. The rest of the evening was uneventful. The following day, I got a 2-page love letter from a guy. He had written how much he loved me and wished to hear me sing this song …"na tum hame jaano… " (from a b/w movie of Dev Anand & Waheeda)

It is a beautiful song indeed, has both male & female versions. It was funny how he had written the lyrics of the opening stanza and the skipped to the last stanza… "mohabbat ke mod pe ham, mile sabko chodke ham….. " Overnight he has come to this "mod" without consulting me.🤣

That was the end of it. I tore the letter into pieces and trashed it.😆

Several years later, he resurfaced out of nowhere. It seems he found me on FB, linkedin. I had completely forgotten about that incident, which he promptly reminded. He would write several lengthy emails, some even included poetic lines like "chaand ka noor chaand ko thodi na hai…" something along those lines. ( come to think of it… I could use this line in a drabble now)😆 I am no chaand/noor like he says...🤔

Looking back, I find it immature & funny. Unknowingly, I often hum that song "na tum hume jaano…" during my daily routine and then remember this guy and pick another the song quickly.

I have now deactivated my FB acct, in fact cut myself off from most groups & SM. After posting this story, I might have to end my tenure at IF too?!! 🤔🤓

Oh God! This is too funny....esp the bold part 🤣🤣

But at that moment, it must have been scary!!

Hearing yours and Sapna's stories, my life is seemingly even more dull now 😐
