I guess I can only fluently read, write and speak English. Urdu and Punjabi, I can understand reasonably well. I can speak and understand a fair bit of Spanish and French, depending on how much I am using both languages but they can get rusty pretty quickly. Actually, so can my Hindi if I don't use it. Other than that, I know a handful of words from every place I've traveled.

I was surprised (and glad) how commonly English was spoken or at least understood when I was traveling in Istanbul. But in Buyukda and Bodrum, it was difficult...

It's fine - why should they learn English? It's a colonial hangover in places like India and other former British holdings.
