Only when people reject such content will we get new storylines. when educated online audience like you and me and still watching this, how can we expect TRP audience to stop it. As long as they get TRPs they will continue showing shitty tracks.

It's not just sp, all ITV channels except few have decent stories.

Now a days no story to tell.. If you notice except three shows in SP none of the other shows getting trps.. Yeh rishta is still managing ..

That's true Ekta changed the whole formats of drama series.. And it's still going on...

Agree once audience reject such content makers will stop putting up such shows ..

See now that we are more technology driven.. There are various platforms hence I think TV somewhat lost over viewership.. If we look around only grand mas are the main audience left TV..they don't understand the concept of feminism nor they do have any idea about breaking glass ceiling...

Sony just telecasted a pathbreaking show.. But it got trps only around 0.3 ..

All serials have toxicity, but they level it out with some positivity too.

For example...Holi track could have been a light hearted track with at least a couple of family members leaning towards Sai? Trying to talk to her. But no, each one of them continue to maintain their stance. How ungrateful & such horrible people?!!

It leaves such a bad taste that today I felt like not watching anymore. We watch the serial to be entertained.

I've given up on trying to understand why ITV needs to be so dramatic and exaggerated in terms of the negativity and toxicity shown.its not like real life is without drama or spice.

Yes in a daily soap they probably need some cliffhanger type things to keep the interest alive but I don't think that more realistic shows will fail to garner views. But itv is stuck in this rut and is obsessed with 3rd angles, infidelity, affairs or the suggestion of it. Its exhausting. They are so casual about people scheming to harm each other and plotting/planning. In real life, we dislike many people but nobody behaves like an ITV villain. ITV villains get away with crimes and all kinds of harassment

In the good old days unfortunately before I even used to watch ITV, my parents have told me about the good quality of tv shows. But now sadly its deteriorated story telling. Most of the shows of SP for example are all remakes. So nothing original! That itself is a marker of quality.

The things that keep viewers engaged is the production quality, better budgets so better packaging, the chemistry of actors and their performances and the fact that when a show new-if a viewer gets hooked and habituated, then its difficult to disengage. So if they retain like even some % of viewership after the initial buzz, they get a steady TRP. Then its basically a mediocre fare of BS until the show is taken off air because channel finds another show or PH finds another viable project or a lead actor quits and they can't find a good enough replacement. The last one is a soft indication only because there are many shows where they simply replace the lead and move on!

I take my own example as a viewer. So I found Sai the character interesting and the plot of these 2 people who are SO different ending up married and Sairat chemistry as my attraction to the show. Now I'm hooked. So even though I rant/complain etc etc I am so habituated that I will watch even as a fast-forward just to see ki hua kya hai. I am not invested enough anymore to watch the full 20-25 mins. I fast forward, skip and only watch Sai scenes but i still know whats happening in the story.

I have given up on writing to Starplus because i had sent so many emails about ghkkpm plot etc and they are SO terrible that they dont even have an automated acknowledgement message to emails they get. I wasn't expecting to get a reply but I thought that they'd atleast send an acknowledgement - even that they dont give.

Channel greenlights content that the makers are providing as long as its not too controversial. Themes of domestic abuse, FL bashing, infidelity, triangles are not toxic to them coz every show is based on it. But I dont think channel is telling makers/PH to fall back on same tropes or exaggerate the toxicity though. So that falls on creatives who seem obsessed with amping up the cringe. I think they dont care if the buzz is negative or they get bashing- as long as people are reacting. If they genuinely cared about the feedback they would not serve us this BS. They would tweak tracks to be better. But they dont care.

I only watch because Ayesha is amazing. I think in all the crap they have shown, Sai/Ayesha have managed to retain my interest. I'm heavily invested in Sai's character. Ayesha pulls her off so convincingly that no matter which direction they go- Sai wanting to reconcile , Sai wanting to leave, Sai's solo journey, Sais love for V, Sai tolerating abuse - I feel engaged in her so i will watch.

And if they ever replace Ayesha or Ayesha quits, I will stop watching.

Sadly it's a very accurate interpretation. I too have fallen into this trap where I am looking forward to Pakhi ki beizzati for her pukeworthy behaviour. 🤢

However, we audience are partially responsible for it. The blame however lies iwth the makers and channels if they are unwilling to change their ways and are not receptive of audience opinion.

As for the TRP is considered...

Recently NDTV announced that it is removing itself from the TRP race. BARC is the authority which is responsible for the ratings. But the limited number of homes where the box is installed, is very few in terms of proportion of viewers. Hence the TRP is ratings is a skewed representation of the actual viewership.

However the impression created is such that people give high importance to TRP numbers. So until and unless that system changes, i don't think we will see any change. Probably OTT type system should be adopted, so that it can be tracked.

While there might be some other motive by NDTV behind doing this, atleast they have the guts to take such a decision which SP would not right now.

So yeah... Bleak future until this changes.

I did mention in one of my posts on how this Sai who was shocked, scared wanted to run away at the way she was treated when she came in this house, when mirchi kaand happened, smiled when she is threatened to be burnt alive...

Imagine women watching this and thinking oh If I am sassy like Sai, I wont be burnt..

Unfortunately this abusive and regressive concept is not only selling, it’s selling really well. It’s the same as news channels sensationalizing bad news over and over again. Negativity sells!! Which is why they will continue what they are doing. This includes everyone who is part of this show including the channel, the PH, the cast and the crew (yes, even Ayesha - no chappals please!). At the end of the day, they all are there to make money and advance their careers. They know that the audience will keep coming back no matter how much we complain, which is why they won’t stop. The only way to make this stop is for them to lose a big chunk of their viewership and thereby their standing.

They don't care and honestly neither should we give these shows so much importance to the extent that they influence our lives or thought process. They ARE normalizing abuse. They ARE normalizing domestic violence. They ARE normalizing toxic marital relationships. They are normalizing even gross incompetence at work 😂. If I let all this affect my value system and thought process, I'm the idiot. But no doubt it still affects us all at some level...We are human.

Even judging purely on entertainment value-It is not entertaining anymore. I can't watch it. I stopped after Virat was admitted to hospital. Because it just wasn't entertaining to watch V become Mahaan and Sai the scapegoat. It didn't gel with me. I couldn't watch It and I don't.

On the whole, Ghum is probably the most relentlessly negative show I've ever watched. Anu aunty has her toxic moments with loads of drama but then they space it out with some random happy moments too. This show doesn't do happy. They sell misery or maybe I should say Misery ultra pro max 😋. Well, I refuse to buy it. I watch TV to de-stress after work- not to feel miserable.

On the devar bhabi ick factor- it doesn't bother me that much. They never showed them as a normal devar and bhabhi. It was always something weird between them that the writers kept alive for obvious reasons. So yeah..not great, definitely not realistic, i don't care for it, but it's not worse than how the Chavans treat Sai and how that is considered totally acceptable on this show.

Two people in a consensual relationship, no matter how immoral >>>>> domestic abuse. So yeah...I'll take Pakhi and V together any day over Sai being abused her whole life but "in love" and with her abusive, emotionally manipulative husband.

Like many have pointed out , it finally comes down to money . Entertainment industry is a cut throat business , and they latch on to anything that sells.

Yes viewers are definitely getting played, but whom to blame? If we blame the makers, they would point out that we viewers have the option to not to watch their shows .

They are selling their shows to those people who still wants their female lead to be the perfect doormat bahu. And these people are the majority. They don't care for storyline, charachter arc or the script. They want to see the female lead suffer , and makers are just delivering the concept of highest demand.
