Some of y'all be tripping' UP!
FACTS:
1. There were KISSES ON SCREEN in Indian cinema in the 1930s (keep in mind, the first film with sound was released in 1931, so it's literally right from the beginning)
2. They spoke "Hinglish" in the early years too, even song lyrics had English words way way back then... (I need to check when exactly but I think it's also 1930s)
3. Regarding "foreign nationals" - many of the early popular stars and technicians were in fact from outside of India. It's not a new phenomenon.
Also, we have to remember that films are a reflection of the times. Today for example, it's super duper super common to speak/hear "Hinglish", therefore you'll see it in films too.
I find it quite odd to see the 90s being an indication of a "lost simplicity"... as if something crude or unnatural happened in the 21st century...
Because if you compare 90s to the films in the 60s, and compare the films in the 60s to the films in the 30s, you'll see that... that's just the way the cookie crumbles.. 😊
Another note: You can EASILY find films and songs that have that simplicity that some of you seem to be looking for. It's still there.
