It was Talat Mahmood's birth anniversary a couple days ago and I came across this! ❤️

However For me Jahan Ara would be an album I'll always cherish.

Talat Saab has sung some really great wonders in that.

Plus when has Madan Mohan's music left us dissatisfied in like everrrr??!

Favs : Main teri nazar Ka suroor hoon & Teri aankh ke aansun pi jaun ❤️

Lyrics : Rajinder Krishan

I went back to one of my most loved melodies yesterday night during a brainstorming session. This whole album has a very pure and innocent vibe to it. Be it the playfulness of 'Ab Ke Sajan Saawan Mein' or the comfort in stealing a couple moments in 'Baagon Mein Kaise Ye Phool', it is a very happy and light hearted album. But even though 'Ab ke Sajan' is the much popular song from this set, for me 'Chupke Chupke' takes the cake, baker and the bakery in the soothing department.

The melody is soft and almost feels precious. It is a song that is to be played when your heart is looking to fill on some much needed solace. This might be one of the last albums Burman Da composed before his death a couple months later but it will always remain one of his best works.

Trivia : The song has an elegant setting and picturization. With Jaya in white, who sings and hums the tunes and Amitabh in a shade of beige listening to her while eavesdropping from places. What might come as a shock is that this set is actually Amitabh Bachchan's own bungalow 'Jalsa', situated in Juhu, Mumbai. Jaya was pregnant with her first child (Abhishek) while shooting for this movie and hence the song for some reason shot in their own home.

Movie : Chupke Chupke (1975)

Song : Chupke Chupke Chal Ri Purvayiyaan

Music Director : S.D. Burman

Lyrics : Anand Bakshi

This track is one of the most underrated ones by Asha Ji in later decades. Extremely less known by people. Which is a pity considering the lyrics are so perfect in portraying what the female character is going through and how she's essaying her role of sacrifice with grace even though it is killing her soul from within.

Deserves more appreciation.

Just gonna post it and call it a night.

Sorry might have gone crayyy. lol. 🐷

Movie : 1920 (2008)

Song : Aise Jalta Hai Jiya

Music Director : Adnan Sami

Lyrics : Sameer

Ahhh Talat! I love his voice! ❤️

It's like velvet and wine, soft and intoxicating.

I missed his birthday! 😲🥺 (How could I?)😭

Anyways, I will write an elaborate tribute on him when I have more time on hand.

Ritu, JahanAra is a great album and of the Talat songs you posted, I especially love 'Phir wohi shaam'.

My dad owned a mix tape of some of his early songs and I grew up listening to them over and over. For me though, Talat is defined by his earlier works for Ghulam Mohammad, Anil Biswas, Salil da and the rest.

Imo, no one can beat him in Ghazals - and I say NO ONE! The reason I love Ghazals is Talat.

This very early (1944) non- film ghazal with music by Kamal Dasgupta and lyrics by Faiyyaz Hashmi has my heart...

Tasveer teri dil mera behla na sakegi

Ye teri tarah mujhse toh sharma na sakegi

Main baat karoonga toh ye khamosh rahegi

seene se laga loonga toh ye kuch na kahegi

aaraam woh kya degi jo tadpa na sakegi

Another Talat song I absolutely love from the film Doraha (1952), Music: Anil Biswas, Lyrics: Sahir Ludhianvi is 'Mohabbat tark ki maine'.

Anilda does such a great job on this composition, I love how every antara is a little different, and Sahir of course sears and scorches with his lyrics. Talat is fantastic.
