Gangubai opening confirms Alia is easily the top female star today

Gangubai Kathiawadi has done well on the first day with collections likely to come in the 9.50-10 crore nett range as the film scores well in Mumbai circuit. The first day collections in Mumbai circuit could match 83 or go higher which was a far bigger film. It will depend on where the smaller centres in Maharashtra land in the morning.

Generally other places like CP Berar and CI have decent collections for a female orientated film. The South has big films so those areas are affected a little and its mainly Nizam / Andhra as Tamil Nadu hardly matters for Hindi films. Nizam / Andhra will also eventually come around if the film is liked in that marked.

There is an outside chance of the film to hit the10 crore nett mark as it has released on around 2150 sites and around 3500 screens which is a release on par with Sooryavanshi. But its likely the collections from smaller centres are going to limited which will keep it below 10 crore nett.

Its a solid start for the film and its likely to be the second highest opener for a film driven by a female star which is a huge result for the industry that a film like this can collect near 10 crore nett so quickly after the pandemic. The film had a fair trailer but the music did not take off and still these numbers have come confirming Alia Bhatt is easily the top female star today.

The film is also doing good numbers in overseas with both US and UK looking set for a good weekend going by early figures. The HIT word has become practically invisible for the film industry with one disaster after another and maybe this film can bring back that HIT word though time will tell. Irrespective of that the initial of Gangubai Kathiawadi is good news for the film industry and after Akshay Kumar and Rohit Shetty its Alia Bhatt and Sanjay Leela Bhansali who have given a confidence booster to the industry.

10 crore opening is simply fabulous.

Alia has proven yet again after Raazi that she is the real queen. The public and audience loves her, despite some people trying to sabotage her by calling her a nepo kid all the time. Talent, hardwork, screen presence and charisma is everything. Nothing else matters.

Deepikas, Kanganas, Katrinas, Priyankas, Shraddhas, Kiaras, Anushkas are nowhere close to her.

Are we not undermining SLB?

Ram Leela got 16 crore opening nine years ago, when Ranveer was not even an established star and Deepika was just newly crowned number one.

Now it is a Alia film, if it crashes on Monday or Tuesday then it will become a SLB film. 🤣

Alia is a good actress. She’s even a great actress. Definitely better than Katrina. Possibly even better than Deepika although that can always be debated. But she does not have that sheer star power that Katrina and Deepika have. Add to that the kind of support and en mass praise that Alia gets before any movie vs what Deepika or Katrina get. No it’s not about talent. It’s about PR work and behind the scenes conversations. Practically the entirety of Bollywood comes out to praise Alia to the skies in a way that doesn’t happen for anyone else’s movies or performances. Never happened for Priyanka, Vidya, Shahid, Ayushman, Rajkumar. Again, Alia is a good actress but she’s not as great as the praises she receives from Bollywood.

Alia’s PR is just as aggressive as Deepika’s. The difference is that Alia’s PR puts a lot of focus on movie results and pushing Alia as India’s Meryl Streep whereas Deepika’s doesn’t seem hyper focused on one thing. One could say that Alia’s PR is shrewder than anyone else’s.

Yes industry hypes her to sky but that won't make anyone to buy the ticket. Wasn't 83 also hyped to the core before release? Did it translate to BO?

People are buying her movie tickets and it says a lot that too in pandemic. You can't dismiss her popularity or star power.

You got to be kidding me. Being a Kat fan i will gladly accept Alia is the no.1...whatever reasons you can give slb, industry backing and all but she has done justice to whatever opportunities she was given/got.

And coming to the movie, it's really really average, quite predictable. Alia was really top notch in some scenes but very inconsistent throughout the film

This is not some PR website. This is the actual biggest box office website of India. These are box office numbers and facts. Not some mumbo jumbo. It's Alia's show of box office starpower all the way. She is the biggest superstar among actresses today. This is fact, not opinion. She has proven before. She has proven again. PR and social media presence is on one side. Stardom is at the box offfice and a 10cr opening in a pandemic situation for a female centric movie is huge especially with 50% occupancy in major centres. It could easily have been a 15cr opening had it been pre covid. This is sheer stardom of Alia in a female centric movie. Why the comparison with Ramleela? That's not female centric.

Deepika's and Kangana's starpower was seen in Chapaak and Thalaivi. Both were super flop openings. They are the definition of PR made fake superstars who are only good in male dominated movies or typical Bollywood movies with hero heroine and song and dance. Otherwise the openings of their movies is abysmal.

And Katrina in a female centric movie? You gotta be kidding me. She can't carry a movie on her own shoulders. Who's gonna watch Katrina act? She's more of an A lister item girl who can only dance in male dominated movies. Take out the heroes first and then compare.

Dude you really think katrina will ever get a movie like gangubai or piku where she is the center character
