Aditya was so used to holding her hand in private that he forgot to do it in public.

I stopped and read this line so many times because it captures the root of the issue with Aditya and Imlie. You nailed it.

As always, the rest of the scenes with Aryan and Imlie were jhappi worthy.

Thank you for the tag, and the smiles. I needed it ❤️

“Aryan supported Imlie, the woman, the dreamer, the fighter, the unstoppable force”

I love how each person has that perspective of their nameless rishta. I fall in love more each time. They all look at certain things. Komal, you’ve done it once again! ❤️

Hey guys, this story can now be found on the fanfiction page too. Do like it there.

Radha Tripathi, Badki Maa, Imlie’s Ex-Chachi-In-Law

Radha was raised to believe that a wife sacrifices everything for her husband and his family. As time went on, her belief in this statement strengthened more and more. She had a nice family, a nice husband, happy children, and a home to call her own.

Then Imlie came roaring into their life.

First as a maid.

Then as Aditya’s wife.

Radha liked Imlie as a maid. It wasn’t because of the obvious reasons, which were where she was from, how she spoke, how she talked, etc. No Radha liked Imlie as a maid because she was fast at learning what she was taught, good in implementing it, and always taking care of others.

Even though she had her own brand of antics, that the usual maids didn’t have, Radha liked Imlie as a maid.

When the house was in uproar after finding out how smart Imlie was, it wasn’t any of her business whether Imlie wanted to continue further studies or not. Imlie was a maid, a good one, so she felt that whatever she wanted to do, she would support her. After all, a good education could take people places. If she had to think from Imlie’s perspective, anything was better than being a maid.

When she had thought that, she hadn’t thought that Imlie would be Aditya’s wife.

Radha wasn’t bothered enough by what Aditya did, except how it presented the family in the society. Radha didn’t mind Imlie being Aditya’s wife as much as she minded Imlie being Tripathi’s Daughter-in-Law.

That was the core of all her problems rooted in Imlie.

For all the obvious reasons Radha liked Imlie as a maid, and all the unobvious ones too, Radha couldn’t take being Imlie, a maid, Tripathi’s Daughter-in-Law.

Also, the insults, the defamation, the questions and the scandal Imlie brought to the Tripathi Household played a factor in her disliking Imlie as a Daughter-in-Law. The slander of her being a maid and Aditya’s wife was not something Radha enjoyed. The vilification they faced in the society for the case Imlie filed against Malini was not something bearable for Radha.

But, her teachings, a wife is good when she sacrifices for her husband and a Daughter-in-Law is good when she sacrifices for her husband’s family, these teachings were the one thing that warmed her up to Imlie.

Her tenaciousness in defending Aditya and the Tripathis, her saving them from any peril, whether it be emotional or corporal, was what made Radha soften to Imlie.

She saw Imlie sacrifice everything, for her husband and them, and Radha liked her more and more. Radha began liking Imlie, the Daughter-in-Law, and again, wasn’t bothered with Imlie, Aditya’s wife.

If she had been then she would’ve noticed that Aditya had begun to see Imlie, not his wife, but someone that would sacrifice everything for him and his family. But Radha's definition of wife was already skewed.

And her definition of Husband, someone who is worth your every sacrifice.

The day Imlie broke down, because Aditya wouldn’t trust her, that too over his once wife, the day Aditya asked Imlie, the love of his life, a question because Malini, the one who was pregnant with his child, Radha had felt bad for Imlie.

But she had believed that she would come back.

It was what wives did after all, forgived their husbands and move on from their mistakes.

The day she first heard about Aryan Singh Rathore, Malini spewing nonsense about Imlie’s special rich friend, she had known that she needn’t worry. Imlie was not the type to move on so fast, that to from the husband she worshipped.

The day she had first seen Aryan Singh Rathore, looking at his interaction with Imlie, she had been sure that this man saw Imlie as they did at first. A girl from a village that was caught up in the city, unawares.

The day Imlie’s article got published on the front page, she was proud of her. Not Imlie, the journalist, no, the Imlie, Daughter-in-Law of the Tripathis. Aryan Singh Rathore, she thought, sure did recognise talent.

The day she found out Imlie was living in Aryan Singh Rathore's house, it had irked her. Imlie was a married woman who knew her boundaries. She couldn’t possibly live in other men’s houses, but she had let it go, for Imlie was coming back to this house sooner or later.

The day she doubted Imlie not coming back was the day Imlie signed the divorce papers, Aryan Singh Rathore, standing behind her, giving her the papers and the pen to sign. She’d noticed Aryan Singh Rathore for the first time that day.

However, she had more serious things to consider then. What was Imlie if not Aditya’s wife and Tripathi’s Daughter-in-Law? What would she be if she was just another person, not related to them at all?

Radha took on Aparna’s stance on Imlie being their deemed daughter. Her mind did not accept it at all.

With Imlie still stuck in the back of her mind as their Daughter-in-Law, Radha judged as the Aryan Singh Rathore came close to Imlie. She judged as Imlie too, came closer to Aryan Singh Rathore.

From not letting her fall to getting involved in their family, from not letting her be slapped to dancing with her, from not letting her being publicly humiliated to ordering her designer clothes, from not letting her eat the chillies to answering every taunt of Aditya and Malini, from not letting her go to save Aditya alone to saving her and Aditya, from not letting her being insulted to buying her their house, from not letting her lose her family to saving her life, she saw Aryan and Imlie turn to Aryan&Imlie.

All through it, through each and every moment, Radha felt like Imlie was betraying Aditya and their family by not being a proper wife and a proper Daughter-in-Law. So whenever she did something for them, sacrificed something for them, Radha clinged onto the hope that Imlie was coming back, slowly, but surely, she would once again be a proper wife and a proper Daughter-in-Law.

Until today.

Today, Aryan had left the dining table claiming that he wasn’t hungry anymore. She recognised the jealousy, but didn’t comment on it. Imlie was back again in this house after all, making breakfast, taking care of Aditya, taking care of their family, being right where she belonged.

She smiled happily at her throughout the breakfast, everytime she served them, everytime she sang for them, everytime she smiled at them.

She didn’t even notice Imlie didn’t sit down for breakfast herself.

It was later, after Aparna had gone to the temple with Narmada, after Rupi and Nishant were gone, doing whatever it was that they did, and her husband and Brother-in-Law were off to discuss business, that Radha went to the kitchen to take something.

There she found the noodles.

She frowned, noodles, why were there noodles?

She heard chatter from the dining table and found the Rathore siblings and Imlie there, the girls laughing and the boy embarrassed.

She paused, not wanting to intrude, yet wanting to listen.

She watched, as Arpita pulled Aryan’s ear, and said, “Ab ban gaye hai naa noodles. Ab karle breakfast. Apni yeh akad hai naa, jaake kissi aur ko dikha. UNB kahika.(Now the noodles are ready. Now have breakfast. And this swagger, go and show it elsewhere. Bloody UNB.)”

Imlie laughed at their antics. Just when she was about to serve herself and Aryan noodles, Aryan caught her hand, took the spoon from her, and served himself and her.

Aryan did this almost unknowingly, and then turned back to his sister and replied, “Isne bhi toh kuch nahi khaya hai naa. Iss ko kyun nahi bol rahe aap kuch?(She hasn’t eaten anything either. Why are you not saying anything to her?)”

Arpita turned her gaze to Imlie, her eyes expressing disappointment, she admitted, “Usse main already daant chuki hun. Jab woh yeh noodles bana rahi thi, toh woh uss kitchen ke andar meri daant bhi khaa rahi thi.(I have already scolded her. In the kitchen, while she made noodles, I scolded her to my heart’s content.)”

Aryan smirked and looked to Imlie then, Imlie worriedly apologised, “Sorry na Arpita Didi. Dekhiye ab hum khaa rahe hai.(Sorry Arpita Didi. See I’m eating now.)”

Arpita just shook her head sideways and got up from the table, and scolded, “Abhi toh main jaa rahi hun, par agar mere waapas aane par mujhe iss bowl mein ek noodle bhi mila naa, toh tum dono ki khair nahi.(Now I’m leaving, but when I come back, I better not find a single noodle in that bowl, otherwise you’ll be the one who are gone.)”

Both Aryan and Imlie nodded at her then, looked down to their plates, and began eating like they were little children and had just been scolded.

Arpita left then, laughing at both of their mock innocent antics.

Radha continued to watch as Aryan and Imlie ate noodles, and then Aryan was looking at Imlie and asking, “Chopsticks se kyun khaa rahi ho? Yaha koi nahi hai.(Why are you using chopsticks? There’s no one here.)”

Imlie answered, “Bohra gaye ho ka ABP, hum ghar maan thodi naahi hai, jon hum haath se---(Have you lost it or what ABP, we are not at home, I can’t eat with my hands---)”, and she paused, and looked at him in shock.

Aryan, sparing her for her slip, asked another question, “Tumne noodles banaye hi kyun? Hum aloo puri khaa lete.(Why did you even make noodles? We could’ve had aloo puri.)”

Imlie, looking down at her plate, playing with noodles with her chopsticks, answered, “Humka ab aloo puri se zyaada noodles pasand aawat hai.(Nowadays, I like noodles more than aloo puri.)”

Aryan looked up at her, his eyes wide, but Imlie was still looking down at her plate, reluctant to meet his eyes, afraid of what she had admitted meant for them. A chopstick slipped from her hand and she watched as it fell down.

Finding the timing perfect, Imlie got up to go to the kitchen to get another pair of them, but just as she was about to go, Aryan found her hand, holding it, not letting her go. He pulled her back to her chair, and gave her his own pair, finding a fork to eat his own noodles.

Radha watched as they ate, together, not saying anything at all, not continuing what they had just paused, but she also watched as Aryan didn’t let go of Imlie’s hand, and Imlie not realising that he was, in fact, holding her hand.

It was today, watching this all, Radha realised that Imlie was not coming back to Aditya. She had found a new person, a new family, someone to call her own.

Radha was always on about Imlie being theirs, that they had the rights on Imlie’s sacrifices and fights and love.

Imlie found people that were hers too. The ones who didn’t claim any rights on Imlie, nor demanded sacrifice from her.

Imlie was no longer Tripathi's Daughter-in-Law.

She was only Imlie, and she was now the Imlie from Aryan&Imlie.

Noodles scene between them was so significant! Imlie indirectly saying that she likes her ABP !! Radha's realisation was bit bitter!! That she liked Imlie as maid & believing that wife should sacrifice everything for her husband. I felt kind of ashamed of her thinking but yes! You caught her true character. No matter how bitter it is but loved that how she realised that Imlie is not going to come back.
