I agree with you it seems he is doing nothing and a useless character in the show. He has no job, no dreams, no ambitions. Okay we know that he doesn't like and did not want to become a doctor and was forced to go to medical school to appease Mahima and Anand. However, doesn't he have any dreams? Any job? It's better this character was not written in the first place.
