Soap suffers serious OSO hangover

Zee TV's Banoo Main Teri Dulhann is better known as the small screen version of Om Shanti Om. After having incorporated the re-incarnation concept and a couple of songs like Chhann se jo toote koi sapna and Tumko paya hai to, the show witnesses another track from the Shah Rukh Khan starrer. And this time it just gets better and bigger by playing the title song of the film. In lines with OSO, the show also has the special appearances by the television stars of different shows being aired on Zee TV.

The blatant copying of a successful track from a film to a tv serial is shocking. Director Shyamashis Bhattacharya however defends the decision to use the songs and scenes. "The song is suited to the situation. Like in Om Shanti Om, our show also has the re-incarnation concept where Vidya is reborn as Divya and Sagar as Amar. They meet each other at a party where Sindoora, who plays a negative role sees them together. And the best part was to have some stars from other shows on Zee TV make guest appearances in the way that other film stars did in Om Shanti Om. We have a contract with T-Series where we can use and play any of their songs. We have also played a couple of songs from Jab We Met earlier. it all depends upon the scene and the situation," he says.

Ask him which other songs he plans to use next in the show and he says, "We haven't decided because it would all depend upon how the story moves ahead. T-series songs that suit the scenario would be used," he quips. Well, looks like TV serial directors are taking maximum advantage of the contract. All they have to do is create a similar scene and the music and song are ready!
