No matter who else does or doesn't watch the video, I sure hope SRK does. This was a genuine effort by a cinephile and SRK fan to analyze what happened in the last few films.

I get it, if I was a fan, I'd be frustrated too with his lack of success in recent years, but that's not my problem. It doesn't matter how much "praise" he received for his performances, it didn't translate at the box office. Where were his fans? either his fans are rejecting his movies, or his fans are dwindling 😆 Either way, he's a shadow of his former self, that's not "hate", it's just life, what goes up must come down.

Ok but why you no respond to my message about Salmon getting bitten by a snake though?

I don't agree with the video that SRK needs to undergo some kind of physical transformation for his roles. He did subvert mainstream hero tropes with Fan and Zero, now it's a different thing that the films were disasters. But yes, I fully agree that it does feel like the directors adjust to SRK the star as opposed to SRK the actor adjusting into the director's story.

Confession time: I have warmed up quite a bit towards JHMS (now it's a different thing that it is mainly because how🔥 I thought SRK looked in the film.. but whatever 🤔), and while Zero was mostly excruciating, I thought SRK delivered a very good performance actually.

If I am being honest I am not that excited for Pathan. Don't like Sid Anand's filmography that much, although it would be good if the film turns out to be a hit. Although high chance it could turn out to be an underwhelming masala like Raees.

Maybe but I think with Raees they were too restricted because of the story (no big change in location, no over the top action). With Pathan they can go all out so I think it will be a more memorable masala movie

Except for the Hirani film, I am not at all excited by SRK's lineup.

War was a crappy film. I don't know Atlee, but the trailers of his movies seem frankly terrible.

Hirani won't be overawed by the star.

For any Shah fans who might not have watched JHMS, I would genuinely advise to try and give it a watch. It's worth it. If not for anything else, but Shah's portrayal of Harry. As a fan, there's so much to love. And you have really done yourself a disservice if you didn't even give it a chance. And personally, I think the album is gold.

Fully agree, I also hated JHMS for the longest time without even watching it. But then I watched it and was surprised that I actually enjoyed it. SRK, like you said really did deliver a very good performance and nailed the emotional scenes.

And while it is true Anushka is irritating as hell in the movie, I think that's what her character was supposed to be. Even Harry vocalises it in the film to his friend saying "Nehayeti badtameez thi" but he still fell for her.

And totally agree about the album. A highly emotional and versatile album from Pritam and probably his last great work after Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.

I watched it but its lackluster overall. SRK gives a good performance for sure (he is not playing the typical romantic hero like a lot of people say) and the songs are also great but Anushka's character is annoying (also no chemistry with SRK) and the plot is all over the place.

Felt like Imtiaz thought that just having SRK in a romance movie (since he is known for them) would be enough and didn't put any effort into a meaningful story like Jab We met. I don't get why directors lately seem to screw it up with SRK, he deserves better

I actually thought the plot was pretty simple and linear. I think what it relied heavily on though was the audience's imagination. The film doesn't do any justice to either of the character's backstory; it just takes off from a certain point and expects the audience to catch on and be invested in what's happening between these two characters. So I think it takes a little bit of your own creativity to understand the emotional journey that plays out.

As for the chemistry, I'm not sure if other SRK fans feel the same, but even if the actress is not doing justice to create that romance from her end, the essence is always still there just through SRK's enactment. I think its more than enough. Especially in a movie like this, which literally has only 2 characters throughout the film (something I really enjoyed), SRK's raw (and sexulized) portrayal of Harry as a scorned man was such a treat to watch.

As some others mentioned already, Fan and Raees were pretty decent movies. And for me, I would add JHMS to that list. I think taking out the thought that Imtiaz made this film would help a lot of people. Like he said in one of his interviews, he wants to be able to make some films that are not seen as his style. But I also agree with you that he could have done a little more justice to the story. And yet, I hope to see another collaboration between them at some point.
