I know this week has not been a pleasant one for most of us, but as I promised, I want the week to end on a few posts on some of the noteworthy scenes of this week's episodes. There aren't many, but I will like to share my perspective on one particular scene that had made most of us extremely comfortable.

Yes, I'm talking about the medical test scene. Now, before you roll you eyes and leave, give it a second thought. I watched some of the clips of that scene on insta, and I would like to pick up on some of the things that I noticed.

Ofcourse, Babita enraged me like she enraged all of you, and honestly, this post isn't about her. It is about the questions that women have to answer. The constant need of proving that they are pure enough. Where a woman's character is assessed with the question of her chastity. As this show claims to be a women-centric show with woman empowerment at it's core, I would say it could've done a better job at the execution of this topic, but then again, even in real life, isn't it always the 'mothers' and the 'females' giving us gyaan about chastity. I know we can't relate to Sunaina's unconventional situation and the extreme and dramatized way this topic was raised, but I loved the way Meety responded to it. Her response was simple and it hit the bull's eye.

For a person like Babs, you can't simply argue with her. You will not be able to win a 'battle of words' with her without getting yourself tainted in the dirt that her pseudo-feminist mindset harbours. So, Meety took the reverse psychology approach. I immediately remembered a dialogue of one of my fav Sitcom characters, Sheldon Cooper. I don't exactly remember each and every word, so I can't quote, but it was something like '...I know you are smart enough, why can't you see that I'm right and you are wrong?'.

Meety, initially invoked the pseudo-progressive lady inside Babs, and instead of immediately telling her that she is wrong, she took the approach of '..you are a strong, progressive, independent woman, and I know you can never make a wrong decision or wrong anyone then how can you not see that what you are doing here is wrong...' (honestly, it felt so sarcastic to me. Babs and progressive ?🤣)

Babs, definitely not pleased, but couldn't proceed with the test after this comment. Then, came the next shot. Even though, this situation is just vile, and I don't want either of the genders to face something even remotely close to this, but Babita needed this wake-up call. If Sunaina's character can be put to test just on the basis that she had spent a night in a different man's bed, why can't the same test be conducted on Tej who was not in the picture for 3 whole years? She knew this was equally offensive, so she apologized to Babs even before putting this thought in words, but ofcourse Babs still didn't like it kyunki unka 'Mera Beta' hangover constant hain. No matter, how much Babs tried to have her last word by saying ' The definition of right and wrong is different for everyone.' We know our Meety won the argument not only for Sunaina but for the entire womanhood.

The next scene-Meety and Sunaina conversation was another gem, and this topic is a tad bit more relatable. Are you an ardent lover or just a doormat? What is love? Love is definitely not something where you sacrifice your self respect. If your love is hurting you, making you feel guilty, is condescending, then it is not love. Your love should make you stronger and not weaker. ❤️

So many youngsters really need to understand this. I have seen so many of my friends suffering in toxic relationships just in the name of 'love'.

I hope Meety's character always stays true to her own words, and we never have to see her become a doormat. Even though I trust MA, he always keeps her above himself, but I just don't trust his family.

I'm not trying to convince you to watch the scene, as it is indeed disgusting to see Babs turn into this regressive and vile Saas. But if you can, do give it a try, and share your opinion about this scene in this post.❤️

P.S- I don't want to believe that our intelligent Meety will just randomly staple a designer saree in order to help Babs. So, for my mental peace, I will just think that she and Tej took revenge from Babs for her atrocious behavior towards their beloved Sunaina

Actually your post makes so much sense. I was more bored due to the amount of negativity shown that I didn't think it this way. It was a much needed lesson and a good explanation done through MH's way of explaining for many other viewers who may still question women's chastity.

Ya it only enraged many of us as we already know that this is wrong but may be this was for some section of people who have the regressive mindset.

And one more thing, I knew that Babita was selfish and regressive but after her comment on the stapler scene I realised she is foolish and does not have a brain too.🤣.

She compared that both were sisters and one drapes saree so well etc etc but till now this simple thing didn't enter her brain that MeetH was the breadwinner of her house and Manushi was velli all the time.

It is no doubt a good thing if someone has a good fashion sense some earn their livelihood through this too but Babita should learn that fashion is not the start and end of the world. Iss age mai she should have been this much matured at least.

Your views are on point.

Actually in our society, there are so many things that are done so often that they are taken for granted. Its like all do it so its a normal and so there is nothing to be worked up about or nothing really to take a stand against. Babita seemed to represent such a thought process and also Sunaina who take it as the only option. The best part that I liked was that Meety pointed out that both are at fault, not just Babita. Babita angered me but frankly I am more angry with Sunaina.

I can write more about her whole remarriage fiasco and her's and Babita's role in it. But just to point out here, imagine if the situation were to be reversed? And I am disappointed that the makers did not address this properly. There was no Meety or Meetwa so does it mean that they dont give some other character some progressive thought process? I dont call Raj as progressive either because I cannot anyday condone emotional blackmail and forced relationships. His intentions might have been pure but it doesnt end there. Here again I can rant a lot, especially the scene where Masoom asks if she can join office. Although Raj says that they are not the type to differentiate between sons and daughters, he just waited for Masoom to come and ask upfront about joining office? Sometimes I feel sympathy towards Masoom. I mean sometimes I see where she is coming from. Have you ever seen Babita or Raj ever shower love on Masoom the way they seem to be doing on their sons? Babita is 'Mera Beta Aunty', not 'Meri Beti Aunty'. They got her married too, to a not so well off or even smart Hoshiyar. Hoshiyar is good at heart but then what does he do? So she craves for importance is what I feel and that pushes her to do what she does.

Okay, I think I have gone off topic a lot 😆

So In short, I was happy with the way they executed the medical test thing. No ott drama. Simply plain truths.

P.s. : forgot to mention the other examples. This was not the first time they have used Babita and Sunaina to represent this kind of mindset.

1- on the day after marriage when Meets were doing the rasams and Meetwa leaves in anger. Sunaina tells Meety that in a husband wife relation, bow down if needed and sometimes even say sorry even if not your fault. Like its the wife's duty to maintain the relationship anyhow is something I could not take. Sadly this is what girls are fed by the previous generations.

2- this we all know. Before the honeymoon, Babita was just one step away from expressing in explicit terms what she expected Meety to do. In order to improve a husband wife relationship, physical intimacy is considered the solution. And she goes further to put across that the wife has to initiate. Thankfully though, Meety was inebriated and we got the wonderful dialogue by Meetwa.

I agree with your points completely! The hospital scene is very educational but we got upset cos it was Babita who is supposed to be cool person... But I guess in real-life however modern the mother in law is they still have problem with daughter in law's chastity while not caring how their son is...I just hope this trp issue doesn't scare Cvs from giving educational scenes in future...

I know right the drama wasn't very ott. And Meety didn't have to scream at top of the lungs and preach like a Mahan Devi. It was a conversation between 3 women . Babs, pseudo-progressive woman with contradictory notions about feminism and activism. Meety, the real feminist in the situation who isn't afraid to call out what is wrong. Sunaina, blinded by love and weak to stand-up for herself despite knowing she is being wronged.

Sunaina kabhi zyada progressive thi hi nahi. I mean she is progressive I guess, but not everyone is strong enough to stand up for themselves. Most women that we meet on a day-to-day basis is like Sunaina actually. So, sadly, I do see where she is coming from.

Drama element k Kiya kalko she will be shown having problems with Meety's education. Maybe she would see Meety hang out with guys or go to parties and she wouldn't like it. Phir Meety ki officer banne k training mein bhi 'Rukawat k liya no khed hain' kehka khari ho jayangi aunty. Dekhlena. Sirf Meetwa Ka hi Sahara hain tbh. That's why I call her pseudo-progressive.

She is progressive Enough to let her DIL work and serve her own family (bohot saas aisa karna nahi Deta) . But then at any given situation, she is the first to play typical blame game with her DILs.

Babita is selectively progressive or selfishly progressive.

She thinks herself to be progressive so direct direct dikhne wale baaton mai she acts progressive but deep inside she can't leave her regressive mindset.

Like bahu ko job krne dena, maaiyke jaane se koi problem na hona which directly shows on the surface un sab mai she is progressive.

In actual sense she is blind to her own actions, she herself doesn't realise that her thoughts are so backward where she thinks to be otherwise.

Well in the beginning she was not at all ok with Meety's delivery work just because her 'Mera Beta' asked for it she agreed... Later even if she is against things Meety does Meetwa will convince her. She will as usual cause a scene and humiliate her then go back to normal as if nothing happened after Meetwa's convincing... 🙄🙄🙄

Yes exactly. Meetwa reminds me of Suraj from Diya Aur Bati sometimes. Even Suraj had to fight with his family for his wife's rights. But over there it was understandable. As Suraj's Bhabo was a conservative woman with little education, so it was hard for her to understand Sandhya's dreams and ambitions. Ab situation dekh k aisa lagta hain that yaha situation won't be much different. Meet Alhawat has to take a stand every now and then to make peace between his mother and wife.
