So, I've these three thoughts to spare about these characters. Overall, I'm liking this new non preachy direction.
1) Kavya. Oh girl, at times I resonate with you. But only because Kinjal has lost her edge. She's right about V and it was a clear foreshadowing. Anupama not believing her right away is right for the character too, but playing that background track was narratively wrong imo.
Kavya has sinned a lot. She gets flack for it too, more than Vanraj. But she has right to move on as a "good wife" after all that devotion towards Vanraj if he has right to be called as a good dad and son and restart. This has been my sore spot with all the progress. And as a good wife, she is rightfully insecure about V's relationship with Anu and even more with Malvika.
Imo, greywashing her is the right thing to do. She should side with Anu and Anuj when the time comes and let this man pay for his sins. A kind of smart MBA grad should now come to terms with her ending relationship else paint how pitiful she's, not a complete vamp. She doesn't need to be second Anu or Anuj. She can still roll her eyes at Anu's saree or object to Nandini marrying Samar (which was not completely wrong) or be selfish and not serve every member of the house. Her character in one word is selfish. Let that core remain and pull out the negatives for her redemption. She's too self aware to be a vamp. I think we all love sassy selfish bit stupid Kavya.
2) Baa. Oh god, I really thought that they've redeemed her. Otherwise, it doesn't make sense narratively to me. The woman of her generation and conviction doesn't change her orthodox ideals back and forth.
Let me explain. I was expecting her to show some reservations about Anu and Anuj getting close, especially without marrying. Even if she got redeemed and accepted her Diwali kaand, it's okay to feel bit weird. But showing her suddenly this greedy and anti Anuj-anu is inconsistent. Women like her don't change their minds about a divorcee remarrying. It takes a lot of apocalyptic kaands for them to change their ideals. And when they do and the narrative tells us that this character is redeemed, such characters realistically won't backtrack. Unlike Vanraj, who's more narcissistic and entitled than he's misogynistic, and is capable of backtracking, with Baa these were the only ideals she ever knew sort of thing. Did i convey it right?(it's late night and I'm not exactly totally conscious iynwim) Even that part about Anu liking Anuj is okay but her treating Malvika lavishly suddenly isn't.
This proves that she learned nothing and is highly materialistic. Which also means, that she still doesn't respect Baapuji a lot because that was the point of resentment for her. What was the apology for ? If that was the last straw, the story should've taken a side. Either progress her or let her be bitter and materialistic. It shows a character growth. Imo, they shouldn't have her do such big of a kaand on Diwali and save some of that poverty argument for later tracks.
3) Others . I'm just celebrating the muddy Vanraj right now. That moustache was made to be twirled. I just hope that they don't make Mukku too weak. Abused victims carry a lot of wounds but they still are a 3D person and many parts of their lives are still intact. Also I like how Toshu is still negative. Unlike Baa, he just threw dirt on Anupama and apologized only about that. Again, Anu shouldn't forgive him easily but well, that's her character and again, show is kinda wrong to show this behaviour of hers completely justified.
