Hi everyone,
Have been a silent member on India Forums and enjoying this show on ITV after ages. I recently started watching the show and am totally hooked. Read a few posts on the forum and wanted to share my thoughts on the three characters and would like to hear your thoughts :)
Disclaimer - Long post :)
Dr Vikrant - Don't want to emphasis much on the MCP and male entitlement aspect as its spoken a lot already. Can't agree more but the last few episodes did make my heart go out to Vikrant! He is a clear example of bad parenting in India which is soo deeply rooted that even as an adult is unable to change it. What I mean by that is I believe our parents do their best in bringing us up but as we grow, with experiences and exposure we can change/ realign ourselves. However changing core characteristics is very hard and requires a lot of deep personal work! Its obvious this guy has loved Deepika all his life, finally learnt to respect her however his innate nature (all thanks to his upbringing where he has never been scoffed for wrong decisions) makes him blame her for the bad decisions he has made in his life. I won't be surprised if he blames her for his drug addiction as well. Precisely why I feel D and V shouldn't be endgame. They split due to lack of compatibility and that still remains! If this show sticks to its realistic aspects they should show V and D have closure regarding their equation. The way both have flashes of their past time and again, it shows they both haven't received the desired closure....if this is mistaken as longing for the other than let me tell its definitely not so for Deepika ( will explain my POV when I come to her later). Ideally they should end up as mature professional colleagues who have grown up and moved onto what is truly meant to be. I also want to mention that I really like Vikrant (unpopular opinion :P): he is a great doctor and an amazing mentor (even better than D - love his interactions with Sia and Wasim). I expected him to be biased during the proxy leader thing but he was neutral and fair and genuinely appreciative of Abhay's victory. If it wasn't for D's undying passion for heading ER; I would agree that V is the best head for this department.
Abhay - As I started with the unpopular opinion statement, he is my fav character on the show! My reasons: He is a flawed character with various areas of growth which if the creatives exploit well can turn out to be the best character arch for this show! For starters there is nothing perfect about this guy: He is emotional, arrogant, batamees, confused but has his heart in the right place :) Kudos to the casting team on getting Vidyut on board, everything feels right when his genuine smile reaches his eyes...this character is tricky as it can very easily go the otherside where you begin to feel if his equation with D is subconsciously selfish(he is so ambitious where he can use his charm in ways he doesn't even realize hence subconscious) or if was the one who made that wrong call for Wasim to get out of the race! But Vidyut makes you believe that Abhay's intentions aren't malign(might be proved wrong post the reveal on who actually made that wrong call to Wasim). Coming to his equation with Sia, I agree it isn't love, its habit mixed with convenience. If D didn't happen in his life, he would have discovered this much later in life as he doesn't even pay much attention to this relationship of his: with brings me to his next flaw: ignorance. His lack of time to this relationship is leading to someone else getting led on in ways which are getting more irreparable with time (engagement being the worst decision he made). This one is going to take long to get resolved and will be the breakthrough moment for this character.
Whatever happens with him and D, Sia and he shouldn't get together and I want to see A as the most successful surgeon from this lot as he deserves it!!! I don't want any heartbroken drama(one Vikrant is already insufferable at the moment). Regarding him and D, again unpopular opinion: I would like to see both of them together and I have my reasons. Firstly ITV hasn't seen an older women younger boy pair in a professional set up. Apart from personal issues one faces due to the age gap, it will be interesting to see professional issues they face, especially since she is his senior and he is super competitive himself. There will be an interesting graph to explore there that how does this relationship survive post the honeymoon phase. Having said that I also feel there is a long way before this can even be initiated. Both A and D need to sort out their past/ present before being ready for this relationship. I see many people talking about physical chemistry and how this couple lacks it. I started watching the show midway and liked it so much and binge watched it from start, like most of you'll in my first episode I was like what is this pair its soo meh!! I have watched Additi's work before and she has mostly worked with older men and her chemistry with them has been mindblowing but here my first thought was he looks too young! But only when I watched the show from start I understood Abhay and Deepika better. Not sure what the team has finally planned but I look at both of them as not your conventional couple - not the one you will instantly like together. Woh wala pyaar ho gaya na for D. This wala pyaar is like espresso double shot - slowly grows on you ;) and I must say they have definitely grown on me. While personal growth is important for all three characters, these two are closest to being compatible - they are in sync, they enjoy the competitiveness, both are emotional, mutual respect and both have things to learn from each other. Being personally in my 30s I would rather risk it with A than V solely because of once bitten twice shy!
Coming.to my last character Deepika - love love love seeing such a solid representation of woman on ITV. She is strong, vulnerable, emotional, fierce and confident. I just hope they don't always show her to be right (not just in cases in life decisions too). One thing I hope they highlight is her equation with V and how she still hasn't gotten closure there. If one has ever loved someone they will know that you can't unlove someone, all you can do is accept this isn't right for me and find another love. For Deepika, she focused on another love (her love for medicine)to put V's memories on the back burner but since he has returned she is struggling to deal with her emotions. The trauma associated to him is huge for her as she lost everything along with him. For her to genuinely move on, she needs to deal with this upfront and get closure. Whether D's romantic life advances in this series or no. I really hope makers show her healing from everything associated to V.
Thanks everyone who has reached this far on my post :) Looking forward to hearing from you'll.
Regards,
Sanjana
